Romantic hypnoerotica falls in the very fringes of what some call the "mind control" genre. I tend to balk at that description because it conjures up images of some adolescent waving a pocket watch and turning the head cheerleader into his mindless sex slave. A lot of people like that sort of thing; I don't happen to be one of them. When I use hypnosis in a story, it's always more than just an easy way for someone to get laid. Erotic hypnosis adds a whole new dimension to sex play; it demands a high level of trust between the partners and pays off in a degree of intimacy way beyond anything people can experience merely by rubbing genitals. My characters start off with a loving relationship, or a good friendship, or maybe just a strong attraction to each other, and use hypnosis to help them push the envelope. Sometimes it's for love, sometimes for lust, but it's always by mutual consent and it's never abusive. My characters don't do anything I wouldn't be willing to do, or have done to me, under similar circumstances. The most common question I get from readers is, "Could that happen in real life?" The honest answer is, it depends. When writing hypnoerotic stories, I fly very close to the deck of reality. It's very rare for me to do something in a story that is totally impossible in real life; most of them, however, would require an experienced and motivated subject with complete trust in the hypnotist to get the same result. For me, something that can be done, albeit under ideal circumstances, is always more interesting to imagine and to write about than something that can't.
