My head, in a different time zone
Wakes early. Here you are, my blonde eternity
Sleeping like a giant next to me
In the pre-dawn light which shone
Through badly drawn curtains.
You stir in your dreams muttering things I didn't hear
So, turning, stretch your arm near
To mine. I kiss your porcelain hand, and I am certain
I am (what you might call) in love.
My own hand slips snake-like to caress your soft belly-skin
Warmly asleep, and also where your breasts will all too soon begin
And though your breathing shallows you do not move.
In this still life heart beats up love as I
Five times your age and more, couldn't help it as I smiled
Like I was sixteen again and you were not a child.
Still I (your lover) will not seek to question why
It is. It is. Quite natural in our eyes
(christ, though. They'd kill me if they'd only realise
What's happened between us).
You catch me dreaming, completely unaware as gently
Adamantine eyes open, flashing. I don't see. I hear you say
"You're looking at me. Why?"
"Because I love you." "Oh, that's all right. I love you too."
Then you kiss me.
