Precious memories of being small,
Of endearing piggyback rides,
Or being up on top of the world
As I rode on your shoulders so high.

You'd walk around with me in your arms;
Did you know such a simple thing,
Was feeding heart and soul and mind
Of a child just unfolding?

Pockets always filled with treasure,
I loved to hold in little hands;
Hanky, wallet, comb, coins, pen, stamp;
And two hears, a present from you.

Restaurants were never a bore
With projects of comb salt and static
Doodling pictures on paper placemats
And spiraling straws so emphatic

Every day just filled with our kisses,
Often rolling around Greenlake;
Upon our bikes we'd cruise the path,
Until we found the place to lay down

A gentle breeze upon my face,
I'd watch the world race by;
As holding fast, with smile in my eyes,
To your hands that held me tight.

Fond memories of bedtime stories,
Narnia and Huckleberry Finn;
Each page a new kiss to my cheek,
I dreamed it will never end.

Carkeek Park, Seattle Center,
The Ferry, or Woodland Park Zoo;
Every place a place of wonder
When sharing it with you.

Teaching me how to ride my first bike,
You'd steady it from behind;
Endless tries and many days,
'Till the skill at last was mine.

I never wondered if you loved me,
I never had a doubt.
I knew I was so special 'cause
I never went without

But most of all, your faith in me,
Your gentle heart that spoke to me
Of faithfulness and selfless love
In your life I clearly see

So in writing you this letter
Saying thank you is my goal
For loving a little girl
And cherishing her soul.

This was a treat. I never read a poem from a little girl's POV.
