Brrt! Brrt! Brrt! Brrt!

"Turn off the alarm! I don't have to get up this early."

"But we do, Abby. There are four girls who must eat, brush their teeth,
get dressed, and be at school on time."

"I'm with my new Dad and my sister and my cousins and you made a baby in
me last night!"

"I tried to make a baby in you. No promises on being successful."

"I'll feel full of love all day!"

"Then get up before I tickle out the pee that you're also full of."

"I gotta go!"

"I thought so. Everyone to the kitchen. Eggs and turkey bacon, plus
milk or juice. If you want something different, it must be something
that you can fix without help."

""""Why?""""

"I now have too many kids to be a short order cook, especially in the
morning. Later I'll make a list of everyone's favorite foods and plan
to have each girl's favorite foods once a week."

"We understand. Can we have pancakes too, Poppy?"

"Your hand in my trousers didn't work the last time you made that
request and it won't work today."

"You're mean!"

"No, Sweetie, just taking care of my pregnant girls."

"Is Abby pregnant too?"

"Unless she has Rose's medical skills, it's too early to tell. If she
is, we'll know in a couple of days."

"How will you know in a couple of days, Dad?"

"Either you'll start throwing up in the morning as Sarah did or your
breasts will start to grow and get tender as Molly's did. I think
you'll be like your sister and you'll be sick by Sunday morning."

"But girls don't get pregnant on the first try."

"They do in this family. Molly, Sarah, Rose, and Sheila all 'caught' on
the first try."

"I really could have a baby in me now?"

"Yes, you could."

"Are you gonna tell people if I'm pregnant?"

"It's your choice to tell or not - at least until your body does the
telling for you."

"You mean like Molly? Her body shouts that she's pregnant."

"But not for long, Abby. My babies will be born by C-section on
Monday."

"Brush your teeth and get dressed, girls. It's time to leave for
school."

""""OK.""""

"Remember to check the tanks when you get to school, Sarah."

"But the other girls have remembered so far."

"As things begin to grow in the tanks, we need to be very careful to
keep the temperature and chemical balance correct - otherwise we might
lose a crop that we've been growing for weeks."

"If that could happen, I do need to check the logs every day."

"Growing food always requires work; even if we don't till the soil or
pull weeds, some things must be done every day."

"The tanks are fine, Mr. Wilson."

"Thank you, Sarah."

"Is this the day Ms. Williams comes for hydroponics and music?"

"Yes, Beth. She should be here between 10:30 and 11:00."

"Abby seems very happy today Mr. Wilson. Do you know why?"

"Elizabeth, we discovered yesterday that Abby and Sarah are sisters.
It's a long story and I'll let them choose when or if they want to share
it."

"Is she gonna be your daughter like Sarah is?"

"Yes, I'll do the paperwork to adopt her. We don't want these sisters
to be separated again."

Knock! Knock!

"Linda, please get the door."

"Hi, Mommy."

"Good Morning, class."

"Good Morning, Ms. Williams."

"Can we learn another song like 'Row, Row, Row Your boat'? That kind of
song is fun."

"I have two more rounds for today and a piece of music that I'll play
and sing for you and you'll try to guess when it was written."

"How do we do that, Ms. Williams?"

"By the words and the music, Alex. Some types of music only existed
after a certain year, such as a song for a trombone or an electric
guitar. Certain types and styles of music are associated with certain
points in time. I'll give you some samples from different years; then
you can listen to the unknown song and tell me what things might
identify when it was written."

Samples for some 300 years. Big orchestral works from the 18th and 19th
centuries. Movie themes from the 20th century - the theme from one of
the 'Star Wars' movies sounds more like an 18th century piece. Popular
music from multiple decades of the 20th century. That will take a while
and some thought.

"Lunch time, class."

"But we're not finished with the song..."

"You may work on the song when we return."

I see Beth and Lacey are eating with Emily today. It appears Emily has
been accepted without any reservations. Abby and my other girls aren't
quite a clique - Elizabeth and LeiLyn are eating with them and they
appear to be getting along. Maybe I can encourage them to have an even
wider circle of friends from school.

Need to check with Mason on when Lacey and Jane will be available.

Ring! Ring!

"This is Mason."

"Ed, this is George. When will Jane and Lacey be available for
interrogation duty?"

"After school today. I talked with them last night and both want to
help. They brought their uniforms with them."

"That's good. Part of what we're doing with Mr. Smith is collecting
evidence. Part of it is simply giving him a good scare. He goes back
on the street when we finish the interrogation."

"Where do we dump him, George?"

"The same as the soldier who was evicted earlier - the Guard Armory. I
need adoption papers for Abby and you need them for Emily. I have
Rose's parents' names if you want to update the existing documents.
Abby is actually Sarah's sister who was kidnapped at birth, so he can
create a duplicate of Sarah's paperwork with the child's name as
Abigail."

"Give me the info on Rose and I'll have the judge take care of all the
documents and get them to us for signatures."

"Father was George David Wilson. Mother was Hattie Johnson. I have
several generations back if needed."

"I think we'll just need the parents. See you later today, George."

Back from lunch and they're researching the song, listening to similar
music from the Building's music library and using info from our internal
copy of the former world wide web - that's a resource we may not have in
20 years as even solid state hard drives have a finite lifetime. All
the girls seem to be close to finishing.

"Just a few more minutes to work on the song, class."

They're finished. All of them got the century right and most identified
it as 'beach music'. The '409' was only meaningful to Sheila, who had
helped her father work on restoring his 'toy' car - a real 409. She did
a good explanation using pictures she found online.

"Class, I know how much you like the paired reading, so that's your
assignment for the rest of the school day. I've made some changes in
the pairings, so check the list before you grab whomever you read with
last time."

Beth seems surprised and happy. She's with family and that family is
someone who can help her as needed.

"You didn't pair me with anyone, Mr. Wilson."

"No, Molly. I didn't want you to start a book with someone and then not
be here next week to continue the paired reading."

"I forgot - I'll be in bed most of next week and doing class by TV."

"That's right. Any reading will be on your own, but I know how much you
love to read and that you'll cover at least as many books as the fastest
set of paired readers."

+M What about the man who said he was Abby's father?

+G Lacey and Jane will help interrogate him after school today. They
brought their uniforms. Back to words in class.

Ding! Ding!

"School's over already?"

"If you're surprised by that, it must have been a fun day for you,
Linda."

"It was. Sarah was right when she said school could be fun with the
right teacher. Thank you for teaching us."

"You're welcome, Linda."

+Li Can we do 'stuff' tonight?

+G No, we're still getting things organized with another girl in the
family.

+Li I remember, Abby is Sarah's sister.

+G Right, smart girl. Next week won't be a good time either. Molly's
babies will be delivered on Monday, so we'll have to adjust our schedule
around what the babies need.

+Li I understand. I'll ask again later.

+G OK.

"Mr. Wilson, I brought my uniform. When do we go see the man who had
Emily?"

"When Jane gets here. You can change in the restroom over there."

"OK. Can you help me with my uniform?"

"Are you sure you want me to see you undressed?"

+La I want you to see me naked. I know you're very gentle and loving
'cause Molly and the others are pregnant and happy about it. Will you
make a baby in me?

+G Remember that my girls hear whatever I 'say' this way, even in a
whisper. You're doing very well keeping your voice down when you're
excited, but I think you may be family and they'll also hear everything
you 'say'. Don't you want your Grandpa Ed to father your babies?

+La He can't. He was injured in by an IED in Iraq. He can get it up
and do 'stuff' but can't make babies. That's why Uncle Ian lets Beth
and Jane spend all the time they want with Grandpa Ed - he keeps them
satisfied and Uncle Ian knows any babies will be his.

+G I'll have to ask my girls if it's OK to make a baby in you.

+La I know. You always think of others first - that's why I want you
to be the father instead of Uncle Ian. If we're family, can I call you
Uncle George?

"If you'll unzip the back of my dress, I can do the rest."

"OK, Lacey, you're unzipped."

+G I'll check on the family connection and let you know. Then you can
ask your Grandpa Ed if it's OK with him.

"Thank you, Mr. Wilson."

+La And thank you for listening to my request.

"Mr. Wilson, I'm here."

"Hi, Jane. You're already in your uniform; that's good. We'll go to
the interrogation room as soon as Lacey finishes changing."

""""Can we come?""""

"Yes, but none of you are to join in the interrogation."

""""OK,""""

"They're all talking together!"

"Yes, Jane. It seems that close family members can do that when they
spend time together."

"Smith, I'm Colonel Wilson. I'm in charge here and you live or die on
my orders. Tell me what happened to Charles Mason."

"We got drunk and got into a fight over Emily. He pulled a knife but I
took it away from him and killed him with it."

=J He's lying, Mr. Wilson. He wanted to make money with Emily by
renting her to people who wanted to do what she did with her Daddy. He
stabbed Mr. Mason while he was asleep.

+G Thank you, Jane.

"I don't believe any of that except the part about you stabbing him.
You can tell me the truth or I'll let the Ninja Mind Warriors do the
interrogation. By the way, these two are Emily's cousins and they're
very angry about what you did. Once I let them start on you, I may not
be able to stop them before they kill you."

"Bull. I could squash both of them with one hand."

+G Jane. Lacey. Make him hurt but don't make him unconscious.

"My head! What's happening? Make it stop! MAKE IT STOP!"

+G Hold him there, girls.

"Are you ready to tell the truth or do I let them finish you off? I can
promise that it will be slow and extremely painful. The pain you feel
now is nothing compared to what they can do."

"I'll tell you everything. Just make it stop!"

+G Girls, drop the pain level in half but keep it there.

"I still hurt!"

"That's a reminder that the girls are still in your mind and can squeeze
the life out of you at any time. Tell me the truth."

"I saw what Charles did with Emily and knew I could sell the little
tramp's services for a lot of money, plus what I could get for pictures
and videos - maybe even some blackmail. When Charles was asleep, I hit
him in the head with a baseball bat, then stabbed him with a hunting
knife. I put his body in the dumpster near the reactor building at
Duke. Lots of people think that there's radioactive stuff in that
dumpster, so only the people in the reactor building use it. They
didn't notice another of their own trash bags. Then Yellowstone erupted
and food was more valuable than sex, so I couldn't use Emily to make
money. I knew this place was safe if I could use her to get in, so I
put my picture and fingerprint on Charles' ID card and used it to get
in."

+G Release him, girls.

=J But I want to kill him!

+G Don't 'yell', Jane. I know how you feel, but he'll die more slowly
if we just put him outside in the ash.

=J OK. Can me and Lacey lift him?

+G If not, my girls are waiting outside this room and can help you carry
him.

=J OK.

"She's not a 'little tramp'. She's had genetic modifications that will
enable her to be one of the mothers of the people who repopulate the
Earth after the ash clears. But that's 20 years away and you'll never
see it. Move him out girls."

Another "shouldn't be here" person is on his way back to the outside.
That's also one less non-productive mouth to feed.

"Back to quarters, girls. We need to plan for taking care of Molly and
her babies."

"I can help babysit. I helped with a neighbor's baby so I know how to
measure and mix formula and how to measure the amount of formula in a
bottle."

"Thank you, Abby. There will also be some nurses available to help
because the babies will be so small. With Abby as part of the family,
we need bigger quarters. Come with me and we can look at some other
apartments. There are some five and six bedroom apartments available.
That means each person could have a bedroom and we could have a nursery
or two for the babies that will be coming."

"You did a long explanation, Dad."

"Yes, Abby. I frequently give long explanations. With this group of
girls, it's easier to give the long explanation than to give a short one
and then be bombarded with questions."

"You think about bedroom and nursery arrangements that will work for all
of us and whether you want to provide bedroom space for Sheila and
Linda. Sheila is pregnant so would eventually need nursery space if she
stays with us. Linda wants to 'make a baby'. Will she want to stay
with us if she gets pregnant?"

"What's the biggest apartment they have, Daddy?"

"I think it's six bedrooms and 4 1/2 baths."

"That gives everyone a bedroom and there's room for a nursery. If we
need to, two girls can share a room to make another room available for a
nursery or another girl. I'll share with Sarah if she's willing."

"I am. I love the idea of sharing anything with my sister!"

"Thank you Abby and Sarah. Girls, I'm sure you heard Lacey's request
and her explanation. I checked the family tree and she's family, so her
requests should get the same consideration as Linda's."

"Yes, Daddy, but baby making after Linda because Linda's been waiting a
long time."

"Yes, Poppy. Linda first."

"Linda first, then Lacey, Papa."

"Linda first, Dad."

"I'll be busy with Molly's deliveries Monday, so I'll tell Lacey after
school Tuesday if the opportunity doesn't present itself over the
weekend. I think she might have a hard time concentrating on school if
I told her first thing in the morning."

"You're smart, Dad."

"The other girls keep telling me I'm smart, Abby. I'll also tell Lacey
that she must inform her Grandpa Ed about what she's asking of me before
we do anything."

"Could Lacey get pregnant on the first try?"

"I'll have to check where Lacey fits in the Wilson line. If she's very
close, it might happen. Otherwise, I have no idea how long it might
take. Think about whether you're willing to let her stay with us for as
long as it takes for her to get pregnant or if there's some other
arrangement you'd prefer. Back to Monday. I've arranged for Ms.
Williams to take the class Monday so I can stay with Molly. From the
looks on your faces, no, you may not come to the hospital for the
delivery. I'll let you know when you'll be allowed to see Molly and the
babies. Don't be disappointed if you're not allowed to hold the babies.
They may limit contact to Molly, the nurses, and me for a while."

+G Do you remember that there are two Molly's in Oregon and the older
one could 'talk' to the one year old? You might be able to talk to the
babies like this. You three coordinate so it's only one girl at a time
talking to each baby and no mind hugs - they'll be so small and fragile
that I won't attempt a mind hug on them for a long time.

"""OK."""

Rather than wait 'til Tuesday, I'll call Ed now and find out whether
Lacey's told him yet. If so, he can tell her the girls said "Yes".

Ring! Ring!

"This is Mason."

"Ed, this is George. Lacey made a request of me today..."

"She's already told me. Her mother was Jeri Wilson from Oregon. She's
somehow determined that you are family."

"As long as you know and are OK with the arrangement. She definitely is
family. She wants to call me 'Uncle George' but I told her that would
be your decision."

"I think she's made an excellent choice for her children's father and
I'm OK with her calling you 'Uncle George'. The more identified family
these girls have, the more loved they will feel."

"Then tell Lacey that my girls said OK, but another girl who's family
had asked some time ago and has been waiting patiently. The girls want
her to go first."

"I'll tell her. I'm sure she'll be thrilled."

"Lacey."

"Yes, Grandpa Ed?"

"That phone call was from Colonel Wilson..."

"He's gonna make a baby in me?"

"With some conditions. There's another girl that's family who asked
some time ago and Colonel Wilson's daughters said she must be first.
You also may call him 'Uncle George', but he'll still be 'Mr. Wilson' at
school."

"I understand - even his daughters call him 'Mr. Wilson' at school. I
think the girl is Linda. I can wait 'cause I know Mr. Wilson is busy
with Abby being in the family now and Molly's babies will be delivered
on Monday. I'm glad you took me in when Mommy and Daddy were killed in
the plane crash, otherwise I'd never have met Mr. Wilson. I love you so
much, Grandpa Ed; can we tell my baby that you're her father?"

"I love you, too, Lacey, but I think we need to keep accurate records of
every baby's ancestry so we'll know who has which skills. Remember that
those skills follow family lines."

"I remember. You're a gardener and so was my Daddy, but my Mommy was a
Wilson. Did she have powers like Molly and Sarah? What does that make
me?"

"Your mother had communications and some mind control abilities. I
don't know whether she had the other powers Molly, Sarah, Jane, and you
have demonstrated. I never saw her lift anything or levitate herself,
but she may have kept those powers hidden. I think your skill set might
make you a captain of gardeners or a captain of a hydroponics ship. You
should ask Colonel Wilson whether he can tell you which skills you
have."

"I can ask Molly! She 'read' some of the other kids who didn't know
what their skills were - but I'll have to ask before Monday."

"Poppy, I know Jane is in Mr. Jackson's class. Do I know any of the
other kids?"

"Let me read the class list and you can tell me whether you know any of
them. Martha McEntyre ..."

"Martha was at Beth's birthday party. She's a cousin of Beth and Jane."

"Janice Thompson - that's odd, I don't have any information on her
parents. I'll make a note to research that tomorrow. Back to the list:
Alice Green; Angela Black - she's Carolyn's older sister; Britney
McGregor - she's Sandra's older sister."

"Only six kids, Daddy?"

"That's right, Honey. But that will change soon; placement is based on
age and ability - children will come to my class on their sixth birthday
and most of them will move up to Bill Jackson's class on their ninth
birthday. I know that there are a number of younger children, so we'll
have new kids coming into the class regularly. Abby will be nine in
October and Emily will be nine in November, so they'll be moving up in a
few months."

"Will there be a summer vacation from school, Papa?"

"Sorry, Rose. Since there's no place to go on vacation, you won't get
the summer off. There will be breaks of a week or so every couple of
months. You can go swimming and play in the park area on level six, but
we have no beaches or theme parks. We won't be travelling outside the
Survival Building, except in an emergency, for a very long time."

"Can we eat in the cafeteria tonight, Papa? It's Asian Delights Day."

"Yes, Rose. We'll eat there. The four of you will be headed for bed
when we return: we'll all be busy preparing the nursery tomorrow and I
want you to get an early start. Molly also wanted help researching
family names she could use for the babies - you can all help with that."

"I already have one name, Daddy. The first Wilson daughter is always
named 'Molly', so the first one born will be 'Molly'. I'll need a short
middle name like 'Ann' from back in the family line so we can call her
either by that name or by both names. 'Molly Ann' won't be confusing
for any of us."

"Good planning, Honey. There are a lot of names that you can choose
from. Let's go eat."
