His father had left the farm 'to find better work' and had never called or returned. Paul could not remember anything about him. Paul had just turned eighteen years old, and was a senior in high school. His sister Anna was sixteen and a sophomore in the same school. Grace worked as a waitress, cashier, and sometimes cook at the only restaurant the little town that they lived just outside of. She made just enough each week to keep them from going hungry, and to keep them in fair looking clothing. Paul loved his mother and sister and was always looking out for them, helping whenever he could. All of Paul's dreams came true one fine winter day. He4 was out in the old barn looking for something to repair that he could sell to get a little money in the house. He went up into the loft and in the far back corner he found an old wooden box. Lifting it was almost too much for Paul. He took the box to a spot where the light was better. Looking in the box he found several bars of iron. He took them all out and below that he found several very old gold coins and an old ring. ` Paul left the iron where he had put it and with high excitement he took his find into the house to show his mother. When Grace saw what was in the box, she asked Paul what he was going to do with the coins and ring. He told her that he was not going to do anything with them. He told her that what he had found now belonged to the family and she could sell all of the coins and the ring for as much as she could get for them. He reached into the box and picked up the ring to get a better look at it. It looked almost new, as it had no tarnish on it. As Paul was looking at the ring, it took on a very faint, light blue glow. Then suddenly the ring jumped onto his left ring finger. Paul felt a tingle run over his body. The next thing that Paul was aware of was that he was lying on the couch in the living room and his mother and sister had a hold of his hands. They wore a very worried expression on their faces. They asked him how he felt, and Paul answered them that he felt great, because he did. A little later, Paul tried to remove the ring but found that it seemed to have gotten smaller, somehow and would not slip over his knuckle. Paul, Anna and Grace all returned to the kitchen to decide what they would do with the coins. Grace said that she knew of a coin collector over in Jones Creek that might pay them something for the coins. Grace looked the number up and made the call. She talked for a few minutes and then smiled as she hung up the phone. She told Paul that the man was on his way and sounded very interested on the phone. About an hour later a car pulled up the drive. A man got out of the car and came to the door. Grace let him in, and he introduced himself as Mr. Claymore. After the introductions were made, he asked to see the coins. Grace showed him the box. He sorted through the coins using a jewelers eyepiece. When he was all done, which took about an hour. He sat down and did some figuring. As soon as he was done, he told Grace that he would give her ten thousand dollars for the lot. Grace had been sitting and watching all through the sorting, and she told Mr. Claymore that there was more coins in the box than ten thousand dollars worth at face value. Then Paul walked into the kitchen where all of this was going on and thought to himself, 'I hope that he doesn't try to cheat us.' Mr. Claymore spoke up and said, "I'll give you $34,000.00 for the lot. Grace told him that he had a deal. Mr Claymore got up and said, "I'll be right back". He went to his car and was back in just a few minutes. He counted out the money on the table and said, "Here is your money. He then put all of the coins in a leather bag. Then he departed. Grace Asked Paul, "What are you going to do with all of your money"? Paul told her that he did not feel that the money was his and that it belonged to the family. <1st attachment end> ----- ASSM Moderation System Notice------ Notice: This post has been modified from its original format.
