<1st attachment, "Kaidin Prologue.doc" begin>

Author's Note: Just a warning, there will probably be no sex in
this story for till about chapter four or five. I'm trying to
build up a plot before I get into that. Do not fret though; the
story codes will become true later in the story.

               The Legacy Kaidin O'Brian
 By Loki Kaidin

 Prologue

Kaidin had a very strange relation ship with his parents and
mentor. Oh, they loved him, but they were also his instructors,
in more ways than one. That meant that he was home schooled, in
more ways than one. While public school kids got taught the
basics, Kaidin's lessons were a little to the extreme.

Not to mention the fact that they lived twenty miles from the
closest neighbor. A lot of the people that lived in a town about
twenty-five miles away asked them why they would want to cut
themselves off like this. They would just tell them they liked it
that way and to mind their own fuckin' business. Well, his
parents had used kinder words, but that was what Kaidin wanted to
tell them.

He didn't like nosey people.

Do not get him wrong, Kaidin loved his father with all of his
heart but he could also admit that his father could be a
cold-hearted bastard when it came to branding the fighting,
tracking, hunting and killing drills through his son's head. His
Dad was an Army Ranger for fifteen years and damn proud of it. He
was also very damn proud that he could pass his skills onto
Kaidin.

He had taught Kaidin more ways to kill a person with a dagger and
crude knives chipped from stone than the boy had thought humanly
possible. His Father made him go through so many repetitions that
it became reflex and instinct. He said starting it was easy, it
was the turning it off that was hard. He had taught the boy to
track through the woods as silently as the calm wind. He taught
him what tracks were what, and how you could tell how old they
were. Kaidin took in these lessons like he was a sponge; just
soaking them all in. He basically taught Kaidin how to be a
survival-ist.

Then came the real fun, at least for Kaidin. Guns, God, how he
loved his guns. His father had bought him six different types of
hand guns and five different types of rifles, both foreign and
domestic. Kaidin took to them like a proverbial duck to water. Of
course he had to start out with the .22 pistol since he was so
small. However, when he got older, nobody was a better shot than
him, not even his father, and he was supposed to be the best. He
started out shooting his father on the lighter weapons when he
was seven.

Kaidin's skills training started when he was four.

His mother was a different sort of person more gentle. However,
she was also the smartest one of them all put together. She
seemed to live for knowledge. Any type of knowledge. She started
his training at four as well. She taught him the basics first:
Reading, writing, Arithmetic and Spelling. After he turned eight
though, things began to change in the teaching style his mother
was using. Sara started teaching him multiple languages, computer
programming, Computer Science, Biology, Wold History, Calculus
and Philosophy. Not to mention meditation and Tai Chi so that he
could center himself and focus better.

There was also another reason she taught him this, though.

Tenshi was different. He was a killer, and he wasn't one bit
ashamed of it. He told Kaidin one day that he had assassinated
107 targets. His former occupation was one of the Masters of The
Black Dragon Society, a group of professional assassins. They
were the best and out of that best, Tenshi was in a league all to
his own. He set records.

He was the one that got Kaidin fascinated in the ninja sword.
Kaidin thought that it was th bast thing he ever owned. It was
titanium with silver laced through it and acid edged, along with
a dragon etched along the blade. When it was made, a six year old
Kaidin asked why the silver had been laced through it. All he got
for his troubles were a mysterious look and a, "You'll find out
later."

Since he was so small the sword also helped him build his arm
muscles up quicker. Until he could fully control the sword,
Tenshi made him a wooden one to go through the drills and kata
with, until he was strong enough for the real blade. The killing
blade, because that's what the etched Dragon on it meant to The
Black Dragon Society.

Kaidin had only seen his mother truly and utterly furious with
Tenshi on one occasion. It was on his tenth birthday. He
remembered that day with fondness and pain. Fondness because
Tenshi was so proud of him, and pain because his mother screamed
for over an hour for what Tenshi did.

Tenshi was a proud man. He was even prouder to have Kaidin as his
Apprentice. So he followed the Code of the Black Dragon Society
and marked him as a member with a tattoo on his arm. The tattoo
was a black dragon with blood red eyes, clutching a sword in his
mouth. Under the tattoo were the words, "Death comes in the
Dark." They were written in his home language of China. However,
under those words were another tattoo.

They were two crossed ninja swords in an X pattern with the moon
behind them. They were Tenshi's personal symbol. Any member of
the Black Dragon Society would know that he was Tenshi's
Apprentice. After he graduated from learning from Tenshi at
sixteen, the Chinese symbol of master would be tattooed under all
the tattoos.

He still couldn't believe how furious his usually quiet mother
had got.

Tenshi just didn't teach him the sword though, he taught him many
more things. He even made him read. The old china man made him
read dozens of books on the Art of War and Stealth. However, it
did not just stop there. No, he taught him arts that were
considered the deadliest Martial Sciences in the wold until the
boy was black and blue. The best thing that Tenshi loved about
Kaidin, was that the more he taught him, the more the boy seemed
to want to learn.

Kaidin had always wondered why they went through so much trouble
to train him.

He got his wish on his eleventh birthday. Later, he wished he
hadn't.

Kaidin's Father called a family meeting and the boy could tell by
the adults' faces that what ever this was about was severely
important and since he was included, it was probably something to
do with him. Since he hadn't done anything wrong since th tattoo,
he wasn't that worried he warranted something for discipline. He
wasn't worried about corporal punishment. If he were in trouble,
they would just triple his physical training until he was
exhausted.

The four people that sat around the dining room table looked
solemn. Kaidin didn't know what they were so serious about, but
it was affecting him as a byproduct. He really couldn't see what
the problem was. They were acting like what they were about to
tell him was a major catastrophe.

His father was the one that started it off. "I'm sure you have
been wonder why we have been spending so much time and money
training you, besides you being our son, that is?"

Kaidin didn't know what to do so he just nodded.

"Son, I want you to know that you are special because you are our
sone and we would have trained you this way anyway. However,
there is a another very important reason that we have him
training you. This reason is very important to us, as well as the
world. My god, that was a little melodramatic, wasn't it?" He let
out a weak chuckle. He would rather be anywhere then having this
conversation with his eleven year old son.

"What's this about, Dad?"

"Kaidin, when you were born, there was a prophecy. Basically what
it said was the you and two others would basically protect the
world. This was made by a woman that has made a total of twelve
prophecy, and every damn one has came true."

"John, language."

"Yes dear."

Kaidin and Tenshi just snickered at the two. Tenshi made the
imitation of a whip be cracked and Kaidin's mother glared at him.
However, her lips were twitching in a sign that she was trying
not to smile.

Though, in truth, Kaidin was starting to get a little worried
about this prophecy.

It was his mother's turn to speak at that point. "Kaidin, what do
you believe about the Supernatural?"

"Well, since you guys have seen proof that prophecies exist,
there must be other things out the that are thought legend that
must be real." Kaidin wasn't trying to 'act' like an eleven year
old grown up talking with logic.

He really was just an overly logical and wise child. It had
always amazed his parents that it was like talking to an adult in
a child's body eighty percent of the time. It was do to all the
History and Philosophy books he had to read. The rest of the time
he would joke around and act like a kid. Put Tenshi had this
sneaking suspicion that it was just to make his parents happy,
because they hated seeing him grow up so quickly.

His father had a very serious look when he spoke next. "It is
funny that you should say Things, Kaidin. Because that is exactly
what is out there. That is what the prophecy is about. Demons."

Kaidin's eyebrows shot up under his overly long bangs. "There
real?!" His voice was almost incredulous.

Tenshi had a dark look in his eyes when he chuckled a bit
morbidly. "Boy, you would not believe the things that are out
there. The weakest of them are vampires and thy are about four
times faster and stronger than a normal man. Though, as such,
they o not really on training as much. But make no mistake, my
Apprentice, they can be killed."

Sara broke in with almost a pained voice as she took up her part
in the talk. "That is where you come in well, you and two others.
Both girls by the way. Since all three of you are prophesied, the
Powers above are granting you something. A gift, if you will. All
of you will have the strength of about four grown men combined,
and then be about four times faster than a normal man."

Kaidin couldn't help look excited at this.

His mother chuckled at his excitement. Her boy rarely showed
excitement, he always tried to remain stoic, like his father
trying to imitate him she supposed. "Do not get to excited, you
will not receive these gifts until your fourteenth birthday.
Which is a good thing, Kaidin. Such power should not be handed to
someone who is not even in his teens. No matter how mature he
is."

Kaidin settled down and nodded. He could see the wisdom in that.

"Son, I want you to remember something. Even though you will be
faster and stronger, the vampires will be just as fast and
strong, so you still have to be very careful. Hell, some of the
other demons out there make vampire look like mere babes in terms
of strength and viciousness. You will need to be prepared. As
such, we have a few things to tell you."
Tenshi took over from here. "I have told you a lot of about my
clan, but I do not think you know how far it reaches. It is even
here in the United States. We have connections with the
government, a few congressman and even the President himself.
They have made quite a few concessions for you and the other two,
and it took a bit of doing to make this happen.

"We had to prove to them that the threat was very real and show
them the demons on the street and luckily they took our advice
and let us handle it. But they did offer to help. Which is very
lucky for us. They have agreed to give you and the other to
concealed weapon permits for all the weapons that you have at the
age of sixteen."

Kaidin's eyes were as big as saucers at this point.

Tenshi chuckled, but continued. "It doesn't stop there, my boy.
You also get a Level Five National Security Clearance Card."

"What's that, Tenshi?"

"It means that only a four star General or above can issue a
warrant for your arrest. Whatever city that you move to, your
name will go into the police computers and that card information
will be there right beside it. Unless you do something
monumentally stupid, you, my young Apprentice, are untouchable by
the law when you turn sixteen. You will have carte blanche when
it comes to take out the evil in the night. See? I can be as
melodramatic as you, John!"

John just smirked at the man.

John looked at his son with a look of pride on his face before he
spoke next. "Son, the other two have been training just like you
have but nowhere near as hard. The reason we have been training
you so hard physically and mentally is not just to fight demons.
We've done this so that you could lead your own team."

It was again a time for him to be shocked, but he got over it a
little quicker this time. He looked at his Dad and asked a
question. "Three people isn't a very big team... What aren't you
telling me?"

"There are three others that were named as Potentials. They could
very well have been chosen by the Powers above but were not. They
too have been training since they were four, but they will not
get the strength and speed you will get. However, they will get
the same benefits that Tenshi told you about.

"Starting tomorrow we will show you the 63 books on demonology
that we have and you will study them religiously. You can not
lead people if you do not have a damn clue as to what your
talking about. The books will talk of th anatomy of demons and
how to kill them. They will also talk of their social customs, so
it will make it easier for you to track them."

Kaidin just gave a solemn nod.

"I think that's about it, son. Why don't you hit the sack and try
to get some sleep."
