"Are you going to sleep all day or are you gonna get up? I can get the ice bucket you know," John said to his son. He laughed out loud when his son literally flew out of bed completely starkers. That was a habit of his son's mentality. He always said that any type of clothing he could wear is to confining for him to sleep in that is what little sleep he got anyway. The boy was lucky to average two hours. John was just fucking with his head about sleeping late. With all the innocence in the world on his face and in his voice, he asked his dad, "How can you even sleep at night, you little prick?" John just laughed and left the room. Their relationship had changed a lot since he was in his teenage years now. They were more like brothers than father and son. Oh, but he could and would still lay down the law if he thought his son was out of line. Problem was, that never seemed to happened. Kaidin gathered all his gear. Today was going to be a big day. His stuff was easy to grab because, all of it was sitting on his dresser. All the rest of his gear was packed in boxes and crates. Today he was moving to Iron Town, California. Or should he say, the movers and home decorators were moving all his stuff. He had already told the trusted home designers how he wanted his stuff in his new home. He had already said good-bye to his parents last night. His mother was the hardest. He could barely resist a crying woman. The home wasn't going to be exactly a mansion, but it would not be a regular house either it was going to be somewhere in between. It was two stories high with s and seven baths. It was really hard to described , but Kaidin really loved it. Mainly because he helped design it. The basement was huge and also an Armory. How did he afford all of this? That question is very easy to answer. Tenshi petitioned the Black Dragon Society, stating that since now he has the brand of a Master Assassin on his arm, not to mention he would be saving a number of peoples lives, he deserved to have some money allocated to a bank account. The amount even surprised Tenshi. He was figuring for about a couple of Hundred Thousand dollars. That is not what they got. What they did get was Fifty Million Dollars wired to Kaidin's account. If Kaidin was a lesser man he probably would have made a fool out of himself and let out a very unmanly squeal. Tenshi's lessons paid off, though. The only thing that appeared on his face was a quiet smirk. As he gathered up all the stuff on his dresser, Kaidin headed for the bathroom. When he got in, he didn't even bother to look in the mirror. Hell, he couldn't think of a reason to look in the mirror in the past. If they didn't like the way he looked, they could kiss his ass. He turned the water to the hottest he could stand it, without getting burned, and damn near moaned as the tortures of yesterday's training started to feel a little better. Even with the incredible strength he had, they found ways of pushing him through training. He washed himself as well he could after enjoying the bliss of the water, and turned it off and stepped outside. Ordinarily he would not care what he looked like, but today he was going to met another Hunter he wanted to look his best, since they had already told him she was female. When he got the steam cleared all the way off the glass, he was in a little bit of a shock. He had not really looked at himself in years and what he saw, surprised the hell out of him. Also, he wasn't afraid to admit, he felt a little proud. He had worked damn hard to look like this. He had to run so many miles he couldn't count. He had to lift weights for so many hours he couldn't count them either. Not to mention all the drills and Martial Arts. What he saw was not the gangly adolescent he had seen in the mirror three years ago. No, the young man in front of him was lined with whip-cord muscle the stood out in stark relief just enough not to make him look like body builder. No, the muscles he had were functional and that was way more important than looking good. That was the point he shook his head wryly. Stop staring before you get an ego the size of Texas, dumbass. He chose specific clothing for the day, because of who he was going to meet. Since she was in the same line of business that he was about to be in, he went for functional, yet stylish attire. He knew he was going overboard with this. It wasn't like him. The more he grew up, the more his attitude seemed to tell the world, "I don't give a fuck what you think of me." He looked at what was laying on the bathroom counter. It was his black trench coat with a special compartment that hid his Ninja Sword, but also allowed easy access to it. Then there were his babies. Two .50 Semi-Automatic Double Action Desert Eagle hand guns. They were also made out of a special metal that wouldn't set off metal detectors. They would go in the dual black shoulder holsters. He also had three extra clips for each gun, besides the ones that was already in them, and they were all loaded with hollow point silver bullets. After all, he learned quickly from the "Training Mission" that Tenshi took him on that a head or a heart shot with one of those bullets turns a blood sucking demon to dust. Sunlight and decapitation works two. Although, he must admit he much preferred the up close and personal battle with the undead with his sword and daggers. He cut through about a dozen of them that night like they were butter. Did he get a told he did a good job? No. He got told, "Not bad, Kid." Kaidin was brought back to the present then and looked at his clothes. He had a pair of black jeans and dark blue Armani shirt he figured he might as well have a little understated style. The last were a pair of snug fitting black boots that had two silver daggers in them. He placed those in the sides of the boots, just like he used the other two silver daggers to hide in the sleeves, where the compartments were, just for such an occasion. After he threw on all his clothes, he didn't even bother with his hair, it would stay wild no matter what, he looked at himself in the mirror. What was looking back at him, surprised him just a little. He looked well, he looked like a person that was seriously intent on killing something. A person might wonder why, Kaidin would carry all these weapons on him during the day time. The answer is one simple word. Familiars. They were humans. The only way for a normal person to find out about one was if they had their vampire symbol tattooed on them. For Kaidin and the others too that have been blessed, they had complete leeway to kill them no matter what, after they get the information out of them of course. The cops In Iron Town would not say shit about the dead body if it had a Vampiric Symbol on it. They would just automatically shut down the case and move on to the next one. Kaidin's father told him that the Police Commissioner of Iron Town had laid down orders to all the cops there, even providing photos, to leave them be and do not even talk to them, no matter what they see. Kaidin thought that this was a little extreme and hoped the others didn't abuse such a gift. A familiar is a human that wants to be a Vampire. In fact, they will do anything the vamp asks in order to gain favor. If they gain enough favor, the will gain immortality, but lose their soul. Kaidin loathed anyone that actually wanted to become a monster and kill people. Children. So, in that case...No, Kaidin would have no problem killing a human very harshly at that. Kaidin shook his head and reach into the pocket of his trench coat. He pulled out a photo. The girl, he didn't know her name, just that she was like him a Hunter. He looked at his watch and almost swore, he was supposed to meet her at the mall today, and if he didn't hurry, he was going to be late as hell. That would make a shitty impression, he thought with a chuckle. With that he tore out of the bathroom in a run, yelling a quick "Bye" over his should as he jumped into his Dodge Durango. ********************* Dani Wilson sat at a little fast food place waiting. She didn't know who she was waiting for, but she did know his picture. She knew one thing, if he really was like her, he was cute and deadly. She has been training for this for four years, ever since she turned twelve. She also knew that Kaidin was going to be the Team leader. Wills (that's what she likes bing called) once asked why he got to be team leader, thinking maybe because it was because he was a boy. She got a response. "Dani, do think training 10 hours a day for four years is harsh?" This was asked by her instructor, a master of the Black Dragon Society. "Yes, I did that everyday and I'm exhausted. That's why I think I should have the chance to be the leader." "My dear Apprentice, he also has a Mentor that is a Master of The Black Dragon Society, an Instructor/Father who is one of the best Army Rangers in the world. Then he has a Mother/Teacher that is qualified to teach twelve subjects. She has taught him most of them, but not all. "That boy has been training for fourteen hours a day since he was four. He has so much knowledge of World History, Art of War and Demonology, I'm surprised his head hasn't popped off. Does that answer your question, my Apprentice." This was all said in a soft voice. That had shocked her to the core. She thought that she was good, because her mentor tattooed the Master symbol on her arm, declaring her a Master in the Black Dragon. That was one thing that she was really proud of. Her Mentor said that most do not get it until they are in their twenties. Her Mentor told her she was one of the deadliest Martial Artists in the world just a week ago when she had received her mark. Her instructor had told her that she had learned the Black Dragon's Martial Science so quickly that she was shocked. Her life before had not been peaches and cream. In fact, she had been living on the street. She never found out how her Mentor found her, but she did. At that point the young twelve year old girl would have trusted just about anyone to get off those streets. That night her Mentor took her to a rather expensive two bed room at a hotel and sat her down and explained the things that go bump in the night. She explained that there were more vampire demons than any other and they were the easiest to kill. Sun light. Decapitation. Silver stake or silver bullet through the heart or the brain. She also told the prophecy. The girl named Dani Wilson flat out told the woman that she was full of shit. There was no way any of that could be true. Then the old Chinese woman did something that changed her life. She said that the obituaries said that there was a death to a young man by a wild animal but it left only two holes in the neck. She said that they would go to that grave yard and if she didn't believe her then, she would walk away and never bother her again. But she did make her promise that she would agree to train for the Prophecy if she was right. Cartville Cemetery was pretty damn big. Wills was secure enough in herself that she could admit she was a little spooked about what might happen. The logical part of her brain said that nothing would... The old woman was crazy. "Here he is," the woman stated with almost a flat voice. "Yeah, it's a tomb stone all right," Wills replied with a slightly sarcastic voice. Years on the street had put that rebellious streak in her. However, when the old women gave her a disapproving look, she mumble an apology. Then the old woman pulled out a very finely made silver stake. "He's all your's, Wilson. If you get into trouble, I'll help you out." With that, the old woman tossed the stake to Wills, who caught it almost instinctively. That was when the waiting had started, they waited for about an hour and nothing happened. Nothing's going to happen. Nothing's going to happen. Nothing is going to happen. It had almost became her happy little mantra. That's when she felt a chill go down her spine and it seemed like the fine little hairs on the back of her neck stood up. That was when it seemed that the ground opened and hell came out. Well. Maybe not hell, but definitely a demon. It's eyes were coal black, no whites at all. It's forehead had ridges on it and it had to be the ugliest creature she had ever scene. She froze at the horror of it. It was halfway out of the grave. Then a voice broke through her frozen senses. "Slam it through it's heart, Child, while it is still weak." Moving on pure adrenalin and fear she did exactly that. The silver stake slammed right through the demon's heart. The only thing left was the dust particles floating through the air. Her heart pounded in her chest and sweat was on her forehead. That was most intense experience in her life. The old woman, who asked her to call her Tika, told her that that was the weakest of the breeds because it hadn't fed yet. The one's that have risen and fed are about three to four times stronger than a human. Moreover, that was their demon face. They could look human when they chose. She was also told their were many other demons in the world. It was on this night that a friendship and an Apprenticeship began. "Waiting for someone?" came an amused voice from behind. Before she could reach for a dagger, guns might hurt someone if she missed not that she did hardly miss anymore, he stated his name. "My name is Kaidin O'Brian. I'm glad I got here on time, traffic was a bitch." Mirth was still in his eyes from sneaking up on her. She was even more beautiful in person than she was in the picture. She had long wavy, dark blonde hair and the brightest green eyes he had ever seen. Judging from what he could see of her upper body, she was also in damn good shape not to mention very endowed. "My name's Dani Wilson. Just call me Wills though, and we will get along fine," she replied with a smile. "You got it. Hey, you chose a nice spot for the things we're going to be discussing. The booth is pretty secure, so their won't be any eavesdroppers." Damn, I'm running out of this small talk shit. Wilson smiled, she could tell that he wasn't used to being around large groups of people. "So, what can you tell me about the rest of the team?" Kaidin snorted, then frowned. It sort of pissed him off when information was being held back. His Guardians thought it would be better for him to get to know them, instead of reading their file. Like he had with Wills, all he had was some photos and a note saying the third gifted would meet him at his place the next day. For this day, though, he had to get to know Wills. "I'll tell you the truth; I got zip. My guardians thought it would be fucking cute for us to get to know one another. I do know they told me that you are second in charge and that we should hang out a bit and get to know one another a bit. They also said that the third of the Gifted would be at my house tomorrow at three. It's supposed to be like a base of operation." Wills nodded her head. It made a little sense. "It's going to get dark in about a half hour. What do you say we hit the clubs and do some Hunting? Could be fun, and I could work off some frustration." "You know what? I think me and you are going to get along just fine," Kaidin replied with wicked grin. "My Mentor Tenshi did a little scouting for me last night. There is a warehouse in the warehouse district of this town that is holding a small clan of about fourteen." Wills' almost maniacal grin almost matched Kaidin's at that moment. Oh, how she loved a good rumble. ******************** The warehouse in question was fairly large. What windows there were, were painted black to keep the sunlight from coming in. The door was a large steel one. For the first time Kaidin questioned his strength. Would he be able to knock that down? Well, we'll find out now, won't we? From what the books read, it said that vampires always wake an hour before sunset. So both of them knew they were awake. The question was, how should they go about this. They could try to sneak through the window, or they could go through the door. "Sneak or Bull? Sneak or Bull?" Wilson could tell he was talking more to himself than to her. She could also tell that he was not one bit afraid. "Fuck it. I say we bust the door down and crash the party. What weapons are you packing?" Wilson was trained to follow orders so didn't question his decision. Besides, she would have made the same choice. "I have two .45 Semi-Automatics and four blades. Two in my sleeves and two in my boots." Kaidin nodded to himself. He knew that this should be easy, he just wanted to be cautious. "Ok, I'm going to bust down the door and raise a little hell, after you hear the first shot, wait five seconds, so they think I'm alone, then come in blazing." "Yes, sir." When she said this it wasn't even sarcastic. Her mentor drilled it into her head to always respect your Commanding Officer unless he is doing something for a stupid reason. She even respected the plan. It never would have entered her mind to wait for five seconds so they could have a small ambush on the enemy. It was at that moment that she was very glad that she was not the leader and Kaidin was. She was starting to get the rush she got just before a fight and she was loving it. "Well, I'm bored. I think I'll go kill something." This was said with that same rakish grin along with same enthusiasm she saw at the fast food place. Kaidin rushed toward the big warehouse, pulling his .50 pistols as he went. He was moving at such a speed that a mortal eye could not follow. When he got to the door he didn't even slow down as he gave the door a mighty front kick. He needn't have worried about his strength. Even though the door was solid steel, it flew clean off the hinges and into the warehouse. "IS THIS A INVITE ONLY PARTY, OR CAN ANYONE JOIN?" Kaidin noticed there were more there than Tenshi had planned. About thirty-two to be exact. But he didn't have time for that. They seemed to all be milling about by their cots waiting for the sun to come up. These were low class vamps that lived in hovels like this. They didn't really have the brains to figure out how to get decent dwellings. When Kaidin came in they seemed to freeze in shock. They just stood, or sat, in shock. The teenage warrior of light didn't give them a chance to regroup. He started firing immediately. The first bullet caught the guy that was closest to him in the head, right between the eyes, dusting him instantly. The second bullet caught the next in the chest. The third bullet did as well. After that he quit counting. He had worked his way toward the window so no one would jump threw if they were not done by the time the sun was down and it was getting very close to that time already. Five seconds must have past, because he heard the barking of Wills' guns. He took three seconds to admire her. That girl could definitely shoot and she had a look of utter calm on her face and fire in her eyes. Although, what was a little shocking, there was a little smile tugging her lips. Kaidin quit watching her and got down to business. He dusted four more before each of the clips in his two guns ran out. Now, he had extra clips, but decided against using them. Instead, he holstered the guns as fast as possible and pulled out his Ninja Sword, also known as the Killing Sword. He went to work with the surgical precision of a madman. There is a little known fact about vampires that most people do not know, unless they hunt them. If a person doesn't hit them in the head or the heart, they bleed a lot. As Kaidin started cutting through them, he wasn't just killing them, he was having fun. He would cut arms and legs off before dusting them. If he were alone, he wouldn't have taken this risk. He knew he could trust Wills to guard his six, because Tenshi trusts her Mentor. And that's that. The battle ended just as soon as Kaidin decapitated the last vampire. He was a mess. Most of his clothes were drenched in blood. His hair was matted with it and there was some splattered all over his face. The first thing he did was turn and try to locate Wills. It wasn't that hard. She was standing in a pile of dust and she was just as covered in blood as he was. He began to wonder why until he saw the two ten inch daggers (not counting the handle) in her hands. She looked a little like that girl from that Stephen King movie Carrie after they dropped the blood on her. It was truly gruesome. Then he had a thought and knew that he must be a little sick in the head to still think she's cute. "I see you like the use of a good blade, too. I can't believe I left my Killing Sword behind. I wasn't expecting a fight like this or I would have brought it." This was all said so casually, they might have been walking through the park. "Don't sell yourself short, Wills, you did great. I can see why your Mentor made you a Master. And before you ask, my Mentor Tenshi knows her. They are sort of friends." "Damn, it's a small world and she didn't say one damn word!" "Yeah. Adults are like that. You would figure that they would give us information since we're the one's with our necks on the line, literally," he replied with a bark of a laugh. "Oh, hell no. You didn't just use that lame ass joke. In fact---" Kaidin held up a hand to stop her from talking. He cocked his head to the side and listened very closely. <Do you here that?> he asked in Black Dragon sign language, hoping she knew it. Wills, who had her head cocked in a similar manner, listening to whatever it was Kaidin was listening to, responded. <Human heart beat. Behind the crates on the east side of the wall. Can I handle it?> Kaidin just gave a nod of ok. There was a stack of crates at the east of the warehouse, where Kaidin and Wills could hear someone trying to control their breathing, but not doing a very good job of it. His heart beat was also around the 120 range. Whoever this was, was scared out of his wits. And by now Kaidin and Wills could tell it was a he because of their heightened senses of smell. The man must have heard them, because he jumped up and started ranting at them. "You killed my master! He was to make me immortal tonight. You've ruined it! I will KILL---" BLAM! BLAM! Kaidin and Wills both shot him at the same time. Their bullet holes were centimeters apart on his forehead. They both holstered their weapons at the same time. It was the first time either of them killed a human and they both felt a little sick over it, but not too sick. "I fuckin' hate Familiars. Sometimes I think they are worse than vamps, because they have a soul and still want to be a demon," Kaidin said as he spit on the corpse. He looked over at Wills; she looked a little green around the gills at having to kill a human. "Hey, Wills. Let's get the hell out of here and back to the Home Base I had built. I haven't seen it yet either, so it will be a first for both of us." He and she both knew Kaidin was trying to get her mind off what she just done. "Hell Yeah. As long as it has a shower. I have all my clothes packed into my trunk because my Tika, my Mentor, said I would be staying with you. We really whipped some ass, didn't we?" She replied, her voice strong again. "We sure did, Wills." Then he looked at her with a crooked smile. "Next time, don't forget your sword." Even though it was said with a little smile, Wills could see the seriousness in his eyes. "Yes, Sir." ********************* After getting Wills' stuff from her car and loaded into his Dodge (and calling a tow-truck) they drove the ten miles to the suburbs that he had bought the rather large house in. It sat on ten acres of land. It was a ten bedroom home with an industrial kitchen that would help feed a lot of people if needed. Five of the bedrooms were up stairs and five were down stairs. All were sound proofed. Tenshi's idea of a joke. He said that Kaidin's roommates wouldn't want to hear him entertaining a lady friend. After they went through the trouble of exploring the house, which amazed both of them, Kaidin went through the trouble of getting his clothes ready. He had just decided on some black sweats and an Ozzy t-shirt. After a very hot shower that took about twenty minutes, he slipped on his clothes and went barefoot downstairs to the bar. It was one of his few vices since he acquired his Gift, and since he had an enhanced healing factor, the chance of him getting falling down drunk were zero. However, he could get a good buzz for about ten minutes. But if he kept drinking glass after glass, he could keep the buzz going as long as he wanted. He thought it was better than doing a line of meth. For that matter, he made a deal with his parents. No drugs, period, and he could drink all he wanted to because of his healing factor. It had been a good thirty minutes since Wills had said that she was going to take a bath. He figured that must of have been the first time she used blades on the vamps for fun as well as getting the job done. She was probably wondering if she did something wrong. Later he would tell her straight, that she was completely in the right. He would tell her that was how he took his frustrations out when Tenshi took him on his "Training Missions." The real reason Tenshi took him so much was because he knew Kaidin was getting edgy and needed to get out. He knew Kaidin was a killer pure and simple. Only his love of killing was for the demons. Though it would soon go on to Familiars. That sick feeling he felt tonight would disappear and killing evil humans wouldn't bother him a bit. What made Kaidin sad was he knew the same would happen to Wills. She was a good person. She had a good heart. As for the first human he killed tonight. It made him sick but it had to be done people like that needed to be put down. Killing the human shook her up a bit. However, she did it and that's what counts. When the chips are down, Kaidin knew that she could get the job done. They were fighting a war here. People were being killed on both sides. Good people on theirs and Familiars on the other side. Wills would see that soon enough. Why is it so hard to be a leader? And I'm just starting, he thought morosely. It was about then that she came back down the stairs. They both had decided that the Gifted one's would sleep on the top floor. Not that they thought they were better. It was just that they both liked the top stairs bedrooms better than the bottom. Plus, the rooms they chose both had balconies. They didn't know it, but both of them liked to look at the sky at night. Kaidin looked up and noticed that she had chosen almost exactly what he did in relaxing clothing. Neither one were going anywhere that night. They figured their job was done until tomorrow. That was one thing that Tenshi drilled through his head. There will always be Vamps; you can't kill them all and you can't save everyone. His reply was that he could damn sure try. Tenshi had just laughed at the brave twelve year old. Speaking of which. "I got to make a report to Tenshi. If you want to make one there is a phone in your bedroom." Kaidin didn't feel a lick of guilt as he watched her asa sway towards the stares. Kaidin dialed the number that he knew by heart. "Hello?" "Tenshi my friend, you need to learn to count." This was said in flawless Chinese, just like he always did when they were talking alone. Tenshi preferred it this way. "I believe I can count fine, Kid. What happened?" His voice was dead serious on the other end of the line. He was always like that when talking business. "Well, me and Wills Dani Wilson by the way went to the target you found. I told her to wait five seconds after the first shot after I went in. I kicked down the door and found thirty-two vamps waiting. I didn't waste any time and started dusting. Wills came in as back-up, she's damn good too, and we dusted the rest. We also killed a Familiar at the end. Wills was a little shook up about killing a human, but she got over it pretty quick. That's about it on my end." "Nothing new on this end. You're Dad and Mom are worried to death about you, as you know. They're going to throw shit fit when they find out that they were not here when you called." "Why aren't they there?" Kaidin asked curiously. "Since this line is secure, I guess I can tell you. They found a Magical Artifact that was made specifically for the Three Gifted. The only thing the current book says about it is that it brings the three closer and gives them a little more power. Didn't say what the power was, though. "There is suppose to be another book when they find the Artifact that explains more. Your genius of a Mother should be able to figure it out. They will be at your house at 11:00AM with the Artifact, the Book, and the Third Gifted Child. So get ready, Kid. I got a feeling that your world is about to turn topsy turvy, but in a good way. "Well, thank you very much, Tenshi. Now I'm going to be up half the night wondering what the fuck they got." He let out a bark of a laugh. Tenshi just chuckled. "That's what I'm here for, kid." "No joking, Tenshi. Thanks. I got to go, there's a bottle of scotch you gave me with my name on it. "Later, Kid." Kaidin walked over to his glass of twenty year old Scotch and downed it in one go, before pouring another. He was just now starting to feel that small buzz he liked to get. That's as buzzed as he would ever get. It's like a normal man drinking three shots of whiskey. If he kept drinking he would be able to keep the small buzz but never get drunk. Aw, fuck it. I've had enough, he thought after that glass. It was just about that time that Wills came down the stairs again. She had a finger in her ear like she was rubbing it out. "I swear, if I didn't have enhanced healing abilities, my ear would be bleeding." "What was she saying?" "Oh, it was deserved. It was forgetting my sword." Kaidin nodded. "You did fuck up. However, we all fuck up. What separates the best from the idiots are those that learn from their mistakes." "You know, you are a good leader." "Hey, you know how to play poker? Texas High Hold'em, to be exact?" He asked, changing the subject and wanting to get her mind off the night. "Sure thing. At least its something to do." "Sure thing, grab a bottle of whiskey. Texas High Hold'em is the Cadillac of poker. If you get good enough at it, maybe we can hit some casinos in a few months." He got a brilliant smile and felt proud for making her feel better. <1st attachment end> ----- ASSM Moderation System Notice------ Notice: This post has been modified from its original format.
