   Chapter 13

   "What is this?" I asked the obvious.

   "It's the elevator to the guest rooms." Sarah told me.

   "Guest rooms?"

   "It will be easier if you just wait and see Jack.  It won't take long
and it will actually let you understand it all more quickly." Shelly
assured me.

   The elevator stopped its descent and opened.  They urged me out before I
could ask any more questions.  I couldn't even think of anything to ask.  I
just wasn't prepared for what I saw.  I guess you could call the place a
basement; but it was noticeably even bigger than the house.  It had a
fairly large exercise area and a smaller common room.  The rest of the
space was taken up with what appeared to be bedrooms.  They all had kinged
sized beds and large closets.  They each had a separate bathroom with both
a tub and a separate shower.  All the décor matched that upstairs.  The
only thing that looked a little odd was a wide slot with a locking cover on
each bedroom entry door.  Also the door handles looked like they were
industrial strength.  All the bedrooms had a table that looked similar to a
kitchen table but smaller.  They were large enough for one or maybe two
people to have meals.  There were small refrigerators in each room and a
large entertainment center.  The entertainment centers were very well
equipped with a satellite TV hookup, DVD player, complete stereo system, a
VCR and a thirty-six inch TV.

   "Jack we never did know exactly which government agency owned and
maintained this place.  Gloria, Helen and Brenda are the only government
employees any of we girls met.  Bill and Jackie had met others but mostly
only had contact with Mr.  Grimes.  He was the one in charge of this place.
You can probably tell that it was for holding prisoners.  They weren't
common criminals and we never even knew anything but the names they were
sent here using.  I'm sure they weren't their real names but it didn't
matter.  The only real contact we ever had with them was bringing their
meals regularly and sometimes bringing other things that Grimes had to
approve first." Shelly explained.

   "We had three guest when the sickness struck and they all died the first
night." Sarah said.

   "What did you do with them?" I asked

   "The security team took them away.  That brings up the next thing Jack.
This house and property has an almost impregnable security system.  At
least it did while there were people to man it.  We have most of it on
automatic now so that we will at least know when someone comes on the
property.  I'm assuming the security teams were in the military because
they just stopped showing up.  I'm not sure of that though.  I'm just sure
they don't show up anymore." Shelly said.

   "Let's go show him the security command center." Sarah suggested.

   We went back to the common area and they took me to a door on the
outside wall.  It struck me then that this was a door that seemed to lead
outside from a basement that was clearly underground.  There was a door on
the opposite wall also.  It appeared to be newer.  Shelly opened the door
and it led into a tunnel that led away from the house.  Shelly told me that
the tunnel led, under the pool, to the security command center.

   "Were does that one go?" I asked pointing to the one on the front wall.

   "That tunnel is brand new.  They only finished it a few days ago.  It
leads to the airstrip." Sarah told me.

   "Why do they have tunnels everywhere?" I asked.

   "You'd have to ask Grimes to get the exact answer and he's still dead as
far as I know." Shelly giggled.

   They led me thru the tunnel and we came to another elevator though the
tunnel continued.  I asked were it went and Shelly told me it went to the
security entrance, which was across the road.  We entered the elevator and
it took us even deeper.  Sarah said it was fifty or sixty feet below
ground. She said it was actually beneath one of the barns.

   I was surprised at the complicated equipment in the command center.  It
had screens and readouts and monitors everywhere along a wall that was
about thirty feet long and ten feet tall.  There was a shelf, which served
as a desk, attached to the wall.  There were several phones and radios on
it.

   They gave me a slight once over about the security and then they led me
to the real shocker.  We left the security room and entered a room that
contained a nuclear powered generator.  Talk about a surprise.

   "We knew this would surprise you Jack.  We only found out about it after
the sickness started, when Mr.  Grimes had them tell us all about the
place, in case we had to take care of it.  This is similar to the power
plants in a nuclear submarine.  It is more automated though.  It is cooled
with water from that large lake you flew over.  The tunnel behind that door
leads out under the center of the lake.  There are two twelve-inch
stainless steel pipes running out there for the cooling water.  They told
us that the fuel in the nuke would be good for about a hundred years if it
ran at full power all the time.  It isn't even running at ten percent now,
actually only about six percent is it's recent peak." Shelly said.

   I couldn't say anything.  I wanted to say shit but I couldn't even say
that.  Shelly told me that most of the security sensors except for the
radar and some infrared were contained in the fences and cross fences.  She
asked me if I had any questions.  I told her I had about ten million but
that I didn't know where to start.

   "Well if it has to do with how or why you'll be out of luck like we are.
We don't know anything about the rhyme nor reason.  Bill just always said
it was government work and it was never intended to make sense.  You might
like to know that the pool can also cool the nuke in an emergency.  But it
can only run at about three percent if it is using the pool alone.  It does
make a splendid heater and cooler for the pool though." Sarah told me.

   "How can it cool the pool?" I asked.

   "We it doesn't directly but the power operates the refrigeration to cool
it.  I'd never even heard of a cooled pool before we got here and I just
wanted to brag a little.  We can set the water to anything we want, within
reason." Shelly said.

   "There are a couple more big things Jack.  The place is set up for
surface to air missile batteries.  Everything is in place except the
missiles and the launchers.  All the radar and the command and control for
them is here and working.  Also we think there must be another underground
facility that they didn't show us.  We haven't found it.  I didn't notice
it; but Gloria, Helen and Brenda said some of the security sensors seem to
come from nowhere." Shelly said.

   "There's something else Jack but we are a little afraid to bring it up.
We think you need to do it but we don't want you to think we are trying to
tell you what to do." Sarah said almost shyly.

   "Don't hesitate about that.  If you think I need to do something just
tell me.  I can't decide if I don't' know what it is." I said.

   "You need to take the three women that came here from the government for
yourself.  I know it might make you seem like a glutton to the boy but it's
important.  They know this place best of all, and all of them are pilots.
Helen and Brenda can fly both helicopters and planes and Gloria can fly

finished.

   This was just too much to believe.  The world had changed a lot in the
last little while but this even seemed to top the sickness to me.  Here

   I just couldn't believe it.  It sounded so hocus pocus to me.  Still I

   After we'd eaten the others cleaned up and then I think they went to the

been.  When you are just getting accustomed to the biggest house you've
ever seen and it's easily twice the size of the one you just left that was

   We showed them around, I told them about the nuke and command center and
about the tunnels to the airstrip and to the middle of the lake.  After
they recovered from these surprises I asked Shelly and Sarah to tell them
about the trick.  Nancy and Karen didn't believe it any more than I did the
first time through.  Karen asked if they could tell her exactly how it was
done.  They did.  They weren't quite clinical about it but nearly so.  I

   "I've had two come to bed with me more than once.  It is always their

   "There's our fix then.  When our turn comes we can just try to go to bed
early.  Jack can trick Shelly and then me.  After he rests up and realizes

your viewpoint." Sarah explained.

   "When the night comes you might even want to tell the subject in advance

   "That's it.  I know who to test it on.  Aimee.  She's the latest to join

   "I think it's all settled unless someone has questions.  I think we

twins in and it will give Jack time to bully Aimee." Karen said.

   "We'd better get on up there because Johnny was in a hurry to get rid of
his cherry.  They may already be in bed." Nancy said.

   "We can knock on the door and talk to one of the girls even if they are
in bed.  He can't be occupying all three of them at a time.  Well at least
he could spare one for a few seconds even if he is occupying them all at
once." Sarah postulated.

   We returned to the main floor and were in luck.  The twins had actually
wanted to watch the movie "The Stand" by Stephen King.  They promised
Johnny they would make it worth his while to watch it with them.  Johnny
was sitting on a love seat with Susan on one side and either Amber or Julia
on the other.  The other twin was sitting on his lap and wiggling her hips
slightly as her tongue was apparently devoted to exploring Johnny's mouth,
Susan and the twins were wearing long T-shirts but with at least some sort
of panties.  Johnny's hands were not visible as both were beneath the
