   Raptor Squadron Chapter 5

   Your Eminence,

My deepest apologies for disturbing your day with my intrusion, however
I have grave news. The human portion of the alliance of your enemy has
created a new ship building facility. Attached, you will find the original
report from the spy that discovered this.

We have already run afoul of the produce of this new facility. Our
planned offensive against the Benesian home world has had to be adjusted to
account for heavy losses to an almost invisible enemy.

I am diverting the second and forth fleets back to this location, in
preparation for a strike against this facility as soon as we have located
it. As you will see from the attached report, these new weapons pose a
serious threat not only to our operations here, but to the security of the
Empire itself!

We will eliminate this threat as quickly as possible and continue with
the subjugation of this galaxy.

I also request permission at this time to isolate and quarantine the
human planet; Hyperion. A rebel movement has begun on that planet and is
targeting the `treatment centers' we have set up to aid the populace. I
have been made aware of your concerns about the true nature of those
facilities and have dispatched two companies of your ghost regiment to
pacify the populace. Should they fail, I would undertake to isolate the
planet.

In your name I await your commands. Your most humble servant,

Caleb-et Shalo Adept of the 8th Circle. Commander, Third expeditionary
force.

   ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---

`You know, even ships this fuckin' big have that new car smell to them.'
Cindy thought to herself as Sam and her escorted one of the mind readers
down a corridor of the Tiamat.

The mind reader started chuckling and turned to smile at Cindy. One of
the ships' controller A.I.'s, Lara, was walking with them and turned to see
what was so funny.

Cindy smiled back at the little lieutenant and tried to explain to Lara
what the joke was. She was glad of the distraction. The short Lieutenant
introduced herself as Shannon, and Cindy embarrassed her by mentally
comparing her to Talena. That wouldn't have been so bad, but the
comparison was imagined with both girls nude. Cindy apologized as soon she
seen Shannon blush, and worked hard to keep her mind off the cute butt in
front of her.

Half way through their `tour' of the big battleship, Shannon pulled
Cindy aside.

"Major, it's alright. I am really flattered by your thoughts, and
honored that you would compare me to your wife. Your armor keeps most of
the images away from me; however, I would ask you to try to keep a lid on
them, since you're turning me on too!" She chuckled. "I really shouldn't
be this distracted by them, but you're not exactly ugly yourself, and I
don't have a mate yet." Her smile disappeared somewhat quickly, and she
looked up into Cindy's eyes intently. "Major, I know this is unusual, when
we get off duty, would you allow me to touch your skin?"

Their introduction had been made after Cindy and Sam had already donned
the armor, and no skin to skin contact was possible unless she reached
through the face plate of Cindy's helm. "Sure, but can I ask why?"

"I'd rather not say, until I know for sure. But don't worry, it's
nothing bad." Shannon said. So far their `tour' had revealed about twenty
turn-coats in the crew of the Tiamat. Cindy had relayed the identities of
the traitors to the marine detachment for arrest.

Shannon had also discovered two separate cases of sabotage to the
Tiamat. It was nearing the end of the day, and they were heading to the
flight bays to help with scanning the people there.

As soon as they stepped through the door, and Sam stepped to one side to
let Shannon precede him, she hesitated and then fell back into Cindy. "Oh
my god!" she screamed.

About thirty feet ahead a man looked up from a stack of crates he was
checking; pulled a laser pistol out of his tunic, and started firing.

Luckily his first shots had been hurried, hitting the bulkhead behind
Cindy.

   Sam yelled, "Everyone down!"

Cindy wrapped an arm around Shannon and spun, shielding her small body
with her armor. Cindy looked at the stunned Lara; "Seal this bay, and get
behind those crates!" She ordered as she guided Shannon to the safe hiding
spot. She sealed her armor, charged her weapon, and raced after Sam; who
was rushing the man.

The man kept firing, the beams hitting Sam's armor futilely. As he got
closer, the man stopped firing and bent down to the crate he was at. Cindy
had seen him stop firing to bend back to the crate, that could only mean
one thing, and she started firing at him as she ran. Her second shot blew
the man's head all over the bay floor, but her first shot had all ready
stopped his heart. Sam and her skidded to a halt behind the body, and
looked down at the crates he had been interested in.

The complex control panel would have completely baffled the two
commando's except for the display.

   It was counting down. :33, :32, :31...

"Oh Fuck!" Sam said with feeling. Sam bent down and grabbed the crate,
His suit augmenting his strength so he could lift the heavy box. He
started running for the open launch portal. As Cindy watched, he jumped,
and thrusters on the back of his suit ignited, blasting him forward, and
through the magnetic curtain protecting the bay. She noticed that the bay
doors were closing rapidly.

"Get it as far out as you can, Sam!" Cindy called after him. She turned
back to make sure her charges were ok, only to find them running towards
her.

She opened her faceplate to hear what Shannon was yelling; "It's a nuke!
Get him back here! Cindy! It's a nuke!"

Cindy's gut twisted in a knot. "Sam! Dump that and get back here on
the double! Full burn!"

"I heard her, Major. It's too late. I won't make it back to cover in
time. Just tell the rest... Tell them it's been an honor and a
privilege." Sam replied.

Cindy fought the tears coming to her eyes as she heard the burst of
static before the suit filtered out the EM blast.

The Tiamat rocked but the doors held as the blast wave passed.

Shannon tried to hold Cindy as tears ran down her face. Lara stood by
their side, her head hung down.

Cindy still had a duty, and she grasped for it. Gently she pushed
Shannon away, caressing her hair to let her know it was all right. Then
she looked around the bay, "Is everyone okay?" She called.

"No. I've been hit in the leg." A strained voice said, deeper in the
bay. Cindy turned to Lara. "Get a medical team down here; I also want a
detachment of marines here until we can make sure this bay is secure." The
emergency gave Cindy temporary command over the higher ranking A.I.

"Already on their way, Major." Lara replied. Cindy nodded to her and
trotted over to see if she could help the wounded man.

Very shortly the marines came pouring through the doors, followed
closely by the medical team. Cindy waved the medics over to the wounded
man, and stood back to give them room to work.

The marine commander also came over to her. "How do you want my people,
Ma'am?"

She glanced at his fatigues, but didn't see a name. "Secure the bay,
Sergeant. Controlled access; no one enters or leaves until the lieutenant
tells you to let them through." She waved over to Shannon, who stood next
to Lara. You could clearly see her red eyes and nose.

"Aye, aye, Ma'am." He saluted and turned back to his men.

Cindy walked over to Shannon and Lara. Looking at Shannon, she asked,
"We have to finish this, then I think we'll call it quits for the day if
you don't mind."

Shannon just looked up into Cindy's eye's. "Oh... Okay Cindy." She
said.

Cindy reached down and took her hand, "Come on, sweetheart. Let's get
this finished." She led her over to the wounded man first, whom the medics
were almost ready to transport to Medbay.

"He's okay." Shannon said. "Tell them to let him pass."

After they stood, Shannon whispered to Cindy, "There is one more in here
I think. I can feel hostile thoughts but not from whom." She said.

"Okay, I don't suppose you can tell if he's armed?" Cindy asked.

"No, sorry. It's just a nebulas feeling right now." Shannon asked.

Turning to Lara, Cindy asked, "Do you have control of the sensors yet?"

"Partially. Those other crates there..." She waved to the crates where
the man had been setting the bomb. "Also contain sophisticated electronic
equipment that doesn't belong here, but I detect no fissionable material. I
can't detect any small weapons yet."

"Damn. Okay, can you place a containment field around those crates?"
Cindy asked.

"Yes. It could contain an explosion, but it should keep people away
from them." Lara answered.

Cindy noticed that people were starting to gather near the exits, so she
led her two companions over to the closest exit, where the wounded man was
being let through.

"Sergeant, I want a guard placed by those crates over there. He is to
shoot anyone getting close to them. Leave one guard by every door to make
sure no one tries to get out that way." Then she used the P.A. system
built into her suit. "Listen up people. We need everyone to use this exit
to leave the bay. We need to make sure everyone is all right, and that no
one else was wounded. So please line up, and let's get you all back to
your quarters." She switched off her P.A. and glanced back to the
sergeant. "Keep an eye out for anyone acting suspicious. We think there is
at least one more in here, and he may be armed."

He nodded and quickly gave his orders to his troops.

As the people began to slowly file past, Cindy kept an eye on Shannon.
The girl was trembling, and holding tightly to Cindy's arm. But the look
of grim determination made Cindy wonder if she was going to be able to
continue. Her face suddenly hardening made Cindy glance back at the man
now passing them.

"How DARE you!" Shannon screamed at him. Before anyone could react, she
stepped away from Cindy and kicked him as hard as her little body could
right in the groin. "How dare you think you could come here and harm us!
We are trying to help you! Now a wonderful, brave man is dead because of
you!"

The bigger man had gone down in a heap, holding his stomach as he curled
into a ball. He was throwing up but Shannon continued to kick the
defenseless traitor as he lay on the floor.

Cindy grabbed the enraged young woman, and lifted her away from the man.
"Shannon! Stop! He's down, he can't hurt anyone anymore! Easy girl.
Just take it easy." Cindy said, attempting to sooth her with words. She
held tightly as the smaller girl tried to get free and continue her attack.
Shortly though, Shannon calmed down and stopped fighting the restraint.

Two marines picked the bloody man up off the floor, and carried him out
of the door. Shannon was sobbing against Cindy's armored chest now, and
the marines had halted the people.

Shortly, Shannon sniffled, and nodded to the marines for them to
continue. She didn't say a word as she looked every remaining person in
the face as they walked by. Most stopped to offer their sympathy, and
gratitude to Cindy and Shannon. As if they had figured out what Shannon
was doing there, most offered their hand for her to touch.

Luckily no other traitors were located, and Cindy gave her final orders
to the sergeant. "Keep guards posted in here. I imagine someone will want
to investigate this whole mess. Until then, this bay is sealed."

Both the sergeant and Lara nodded.

"Good, if anyone needs me, I'll be in my quarters." She finished.

She led Shannon from the bay, and headed for the nearest maglev
transport. "Shannon, I need to report this to Admiral Williams. But if
you want, you can come to my quarters with me." Cindy offered.

"Thanks. I really don't want to be alone right now." She said.

   ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---

Caleb-et Shalo Adept of the 8th Circle.

It is well you have sent this information to us. You are correct in
treating this new human facility as a threat. Destroying this new base is
of the highest priority, and is secondary only to our actions on the planet
Hyperion.

If the Ghost companies fail to contain this revolt within two weeks; it
is our command that the planet be sterilized; no life shall remain.
Isolation should already be in place. No word of this revolt is to be
allowed to spread to other planets. If there is any possibility of
contamination, it should be eliminated at once. No exception.

It is by way of his most honored servant, you are so commanded.
Darnet-el Creel Tolenar of the 2nd Circle

   ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---

In her temporary quarters aboard the Tiamat, Cindy turned from the
terminal after filing her report. She had shed her armor for the day, and
was sitting in her cover-alls. She leaned back and closed her eyes. Sam
was gone. He had been killed because some simple minded people hundreds of
light years away didn't agree with what was being done here. How stupid is
that? Stupid and meaningless. What a waste.

"I hope you don't mind, but I used the other terminal in your room while
you were busy." Shannon said, Walking over to sit beside Cindy on the
couch.

"No, not at all. Are you hungry?"

"Not really, just kinda tired I guess." The girl answered. At that
moment, she looked very young to Cindy. Shannon leaned her head on Cindy's
shoulder.

"I know what you mean. I think I'm going to take a bath. I feel kinda
funky." Cindy said.

"Um, can I... Can I join you? A bath sounds like heaven, and I really
don't want to be alone right now." Shannon asked in a soft voice.

"Sure hon, you've had a hard day. Let's go relax." Cindy kissed the
girl on the forehead, took her hand and rose to lead her to the bathroom.

Cindy got the tub filling with water, and stepped into her bedroom to
shed her clothes. Shannon followed and copied her, openly staring at
Cindy's body; after she removed her cover-all and panties.

"You are very beautiful, Cindy." Shannon said, shyly.

"Thank you, dear. You're not too shabby yourself." Cindy said with a
wink.

"Thanks, but I know I have the body of a twelve year old. My mother is
the same way. She looks, at most 15, and she's 35."

"35? She must have had you when she was very young." Cindy said.

Shannon smiled softly, "I'm the second child, but my brother passed away
when I was very little."

They walked back into the bathroom and shutting off the water, climbed
into the tub. Cindy got in first, and sat with her back against the end.
Shannon climbed in, turned her back to Cindy, and promptly sat between her
legs. She leaned back, and Cindy's arms automatically came around the
smaller girl.

   "Cindy?"

"Yes, Hon." Cindy replied as she idly caressed the girls belly, and
small pert breasts.

"I want to be with you tonight, but I think I should tell you that if we
do, I'll be able to read you completely. I'll know everything about you,
and everything you know. We'll join in the mind, not just the body. The
emotions during sex open us both. You'll know me as well. I... I've only
had sex one other time, and it scared us so much that we never did it
again. It was with my sister, Gabby.

Even now, here, like this with you, it's hard not to read you. However,
I've seen enough of you today to know you are a very caring person. I've
been alone for so long. It's so... lonely. No one wants to be with me,
they're afraid of the loss of privacy.

I walk around everyday, and I can hear everyone's thoughts in my head. I
ignore them, but there are so many! But yet I still feel so damn alone."

"Shannon, sweetheart, how old are you? Most times you seem about 20 or
25, but others you appear to be very young." Cindy asked.

"I'm 15. 15 going on 40. This damn ability got me through school and
college very fast, and it has even made sure I mature quickly too, but I'm
not so sure I wanted to go that fast. Hell, I even would have finished
flight school here in less than a week if we all didn't progress at the
same pace. I've had this ability for almost five years now, and I feel
like I've lived a lifetime already." The girl replied.

"Where is your family? I hope you don't mind, but I would like to know
you, before we make love." Cindy said.

Shannon leaned forward and turned to face her new friend. She looked
into her eyes and saw love, admiration, sorrow, and loss. "You're sure?"
Shannon asked.

"If Ian trusts you enough to assign you to do this job, I think I can
trust you with my darkest secrets. I don't believe you'd try to use any of
the other knowledge you'll get so, yes, I'm sure."

"But, what about your mates? Don't we have to ask them first?"

"When I joined the team, we all sat down and discussed my having sex
with others. We all agreed that it was okay as long as I didn't get
pregnant, and kept my mates first in my heart." Cindy replied.

"Cindy, This might make you break that promise, at least temporarily.
When I have sex with someone, we... bond for a time. We'll be very much
in love until we can be separated. I cried for a week after I left home. I
still love my sister very much, but I realized that it was my ability that
was causing it. Gabby felt the same way, though I think she still loves me
as more than a sister. I couldn't continue with her after I violated her
like that. Now I know what to expect, I can tell the person before hand
what will happen, and let them make the choice."

Cindy thought about it for a moment. "I love the members of my team. I
may be even a little in love with a couple of them. But it still doesn't
hold a candle to what I feel for my loves. You might be included in one of
those two groups tonight, but I don't think it'll really be a problem.
You've met Ian, once we are done here, I think you should meet the rest of
my family and you'll understand. The bond I feel with them is soul deep,
nothing will ever harm that."

Shannon looked into Cindy's eyes for a moment longer, tears coming to
her eyes. "I hope I can find that someday."

Cindy pulled the girl into her arms and held her. She felt information
begin to come into her mind, and realized Shannon had lowered her own
internal blocks. Shannon showed her everything; from her parents and
siblings to her college and assignment to silver squadron onboard Star
Dancer. Cindy knew everything there was to know about Shannon Roberts.
Even the guiltily strong physical attraction she had for Admiral Williams.

Cindy chuckled. "No need to feel guilty about Ian, love. He has that
effect on a lot of people." She also realized that they had been sitting in
the tub, in this position for about twenty minutes, and her muscles were
starting to cramp. "Let's get out and shower off. The tub is relaxing,
but now I want to be clean too."

Shannon smiled. "Okay," then climbed off Cindy's lap, and out of the
tub.

Cindy took the time to look over Shannon's young body again. She didn't
have much in the way of breasts; maybe A cups, but the rest of her sexy
lithe body was very enticing. Talena was slightly larger than Shannon, but
Shannon was no less attractive.

"Is that Talena? That's the second time I've seen you think of her.
The first time though I didn't see what you did, I only caught the emotion
and words. She's very beautiful."

Cindy chuckled, "Yes that's my wife. She's a little older than you now,
but when we first met, she was your age." Wow, she is good, Cindy thought.
I wonder why I never got an ability?

"You did. It's just not fully awake." Shannon replied.

Cindy stopped in her tracks. "Huh?" The confusion on her face mirroring
her thoughts.

"Whoa, calm down. You've also just discovered one of the only ways to
keep me from reading you. That jumble of thought scrambles what I see. I
can fight through it, but it's hard to do. Yes, you have an ability; one
like mine, but it's not fully awake." Shannon explained.

Cindy tried to calm herself. She tried to use a technique she learned
in training; focusing on one thing. Since Shannon was right in front of
her, she focused on her little pussy. How she would lick and suck that
little sweet spot between her new friend's legs. It didn't occur to her
that Shannon was concentrating on her in an effort to help her through
this.

"Oh my... GOD!" Shannon said, grasping for the hand rail as her legs
buckled, and an orgasm slammed into her small frame.

Cindy saw her about to fall and rushed to her side, the confusion mostly
gone, as a concern for Shannon took its place. "Honey! Are you alright?"

"Yes, I... damn! That was a strong one!" She panted.

   "What happened?" Cindy asked.

"You gave me an orgasm. You concentrated on my pussy, as I was trying
to help you calm down, so I felt everything you thought and felt. Wow."

"But I was only..." Cindy said, the confusion beginning to come back.

"Relax, don't worry about it. Thank you for that though." Shannon said,
as she kissed Cindy lightly on the lips. "Let's just worry about getting
clean for now. We can talk about the rest later, while we are lying down."
She chuckled.

Cindy nodded, and helped Shannon back to her feet. She grabbed the
soap, and started to wash her friend's small body.

   ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---

"Thank you all for coming tonight." Serena said as she looked around the
table. "I want to thank you all for giving back to me something I thought
I had lost; the ability to love again. The times you allowed me to spend
with each of you have meant more to me than I could ever hope to show you.
I truly love each and every one of you." She looked at Talena, and seen the
love in her eyes. It was mirrored in all her guests. "A while ago, Talena
asked me to ask to join your family. I didn't because I wanted to think,
and make sure of my feelings."

She then looked around at the rest of the Williams family; the family
that she longed to become a part of.

"Even my children have come to love you as parents, and your children as
siblings. I have a problem though. I can't abandon my command here
because I am needed, therefore, I would be unable to truly be a wife to
you, no matter how much I want to. In this case, my duty must come first.
I can only wish it were otherwise, but with all that is going on..." She
let the rest go unsaid.

Talena came around the table and threw her arms around Serena. Tears
ran down her face.

Beth looked at everyone else at the table, and said, "Serena, You may
not be wearing our ring, but you might as well be. You are already as much
a part of this family as any of us are. The heart has never taken the
mind's opinion into account when making these kinds of decisions. Yes, you
are needed here, but who is to say you can't be a member of our family?
Just because you need to be here most of the time, doesn't mean we can't
love each other. What is `truly be a wife'? The only thing that matters
is that you love us, and we love you. Granted, you won't be able to sleep
with us every night, but that doesn't mean we can't work around that. We
don't know what the future holds for any of us. Well, maybe Jenny and her
mother do, but the point is; you are already a part of our love. That
makes you a part of our family. The bond has already formed."

"And because of that bond, we all wear your name on our rings. Cindy
too, though she couldn't be here tonight. We all agreed to ask you to join
us. Not exactly the true Talosian way of doing things, but as everyone
keeps trying telling us, we are not Talosian." Jenny said.

"So, because of those facts, we have brought you a gift." Ian said.
Since Serena was sitting next to him, he placed a ring in front of her.
"Serena, All of us love you and feel you are a part of our own love for
each other. Though others may join us, and someday some may leave. We
would like you to accept our family as your own. Become one with us and
share in the love you have created."

Talena reached out, and picked up the ring. "I knew the first night
that I was in love with you, Serena. Something about you touched me and I
knew you belonged with us. We have all felt your absence, though you were
always here. We knew you needed time to think, so we stayed away. We can
make this work. If needs be, one of us can be here to spend the night with
you every night you can't be with the rest of us. Please accept our love."
She held the ring as if to put it on Serena's hand.

Serena looked around the table at the faces of the people she had come
to love. She knew they would make this work, somehow.

"Serena, Star Dancer will be staying in this system unless we're on a
mission. Given my newest responsibilities, missions will probably be
common. However, currently, Star Dancer and Prometheus are the only two
completed battle cruisers in the fleet. There's a good chance you'll be
coming with us from time to time" Ian said.

Serena was surprised, "But won't that leave this sector undefended?"

"No. Tiamat will be operational soon, and she can defend the system."
Ian's smile grew as he spoke. "I want to get out there and start taking
worlds back."

   ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---

   "Eminence, you have summoned me?"

"Yes, Creel. I have reviewed the message from Caleb-et Shalo and the
orders you sent to him. I have further instructions for you. I want the
First Imperial assault fleet sent to that galaxy. Once the system has been
located, I want them to take over its elimination. Shalo is not to know of
their presence until it's time for them to strike. If he finds this system
before they arrive, he is to do nothing. If he attempts to use the force
necessary to destroy this system, he will have stripped too many of our
forces away from other areas to get the job done. As it is, I'm not sure
only one fleet will be enough."

"My Lord, You do not believe one fleet will be enough? Our whole
campaign in that galaxy is being conducted by one fleet. This is only one
small system..."

"After watching the report, I had a vision. In that vision I saw this
planet in flames. I saw weapons being fired from ships that couldn't be
seen. I saw our ground forces dying trying to fight an invisible enemy.
This small system will be the end of us. I only hope we can stop them, if
we don't, this empire will fall."

"As you will, Holiness, since you are sending your personal forces, what
fleet do you wish for me to move into place to guard this world?"

"I believe elements of the twenty-third are going through a training
cycle? Bring them up, they can train here."

   ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---

"Now, are you going to explain what happened before our shower?" Cindy
and Shannon had finished their shower with only minimal teasing; some soft
petting and kisses.

"Okay, I'm a mind reader. What I had told you about your ability, had
thrown you into such a state of confusion that I couldn't read you very
well anymore. So, I tried to help calm you down. When you began to focus
your entire conscious mind on my pussy, I actually felt everything you
thought. It was so damn intense that I had a major orgasm right on the
spot." Shannon explained.

"But I had those thoughts about you before. Today, while we were
walking to the bay..." Cindy was getting a bit confused again.

"Sweetie, your armor filtered most of that out. It's like the
difference between reading a book, or watching it in three dimensions
complete with feeling. So it didn't affect me like it did a few minutes
ago."

"Ah, okay. Now what's this about my having an ability?" Cindy asked.

"Well, you do have one, I don't know what it is, but I can see that it
isn't fully awake."

"I don't understand. Awake? Isn't it either there or not there?"

"Sometimes. One of my friends is trying to learn all he can about our
abilities. He explained to me that some of us, are born with them `awake
and active' while others seem to have wait for them to awaken. I really
don't understand as much as he does, but he told me that I should run into
them from time to time." Shannon answered.

"I wanna talk about this for a bit, would you like a coffee or
something?" Cindy asked.

"Sure, I'll have a cappuccino too." Shannon answered, grinning at her.

Cindy returned carrying two mugs, and sat on the bed with the girl. She
noticed that Shannon made a really nice distraction when she sat Indian
style in the buff. "So fill me in on this. If I have an ability, how do I
wake it up? How do I find out what it is?"

"I might be able to awaken it, but I've never actually done it before.
It might hurt a little. As to finding out what it is, well, you'll more
than likely know pretty quick."

"I'm a little nervous about this, but what do you have to do to wake it
up?" Cindy asked.

"That's hard to describe. Hmm, well, right now it kinda looks like a
cloud blocking the sun. I would simply move the cloud in your mind. I
don't really know if I can do this or not, because it's more along the
lines of mind control than what I do, but I can try." Shannon explained.

"Mind control? Do we even have anyone that can do that?"

"Well, not very well yet, but it's not completely out of the question.
It is possible; even your own husband has some limited ability at that. As
for waking it up; it might wake up when we have sex. If not, and you still
want it awoken, I'll try when we're done." Shannon answered.

Cindy smiled and leaned in to kiss the smaller girl. Shannon kissed
back with passion; her tongue immediately requesting permission into
Cindy's mouth.

They were interrupted by the door chimes. "Rats!" Shannon said as Cindy
slipped a robe on to answer the door.

Cindy opened the door to see Captain Tauron standing there. "Captain?
What can I do for you?"

"I'm sorry to disturb you this late in the evening, Major, but something
has come up, and I needed to speak to you about it. May I come in?"

"Of course, sir. Please come in." She said, and led the way to the
lounge area. "May I get you anything to drink?" She asked, turning around
to face her guest. She stopped short at the sight of the laser pistol in
his hand.

"Major, I want you to know, this isn't personal. I have my orders too.
Those mind readers have to be killed. No one should have that kind of
power. When the computer told me one of those monsters was here, I knew I
would have to kill you too."

"Sir, why are you doing this? We're only trying to do our best for the
war. The mind readers wouldn't have even been brought in to this if it
wasn't for the sabotage done to the Star Dancer. This whole campaign
against us makes no sense" Cindy said.

"Well, the others believe that losing your honor is worse than losing
your life. I guess I kinda agree with that. But these mental powers you
all seem to have, that's not just not right." He raised his hand, aiming
the pistol at Cindy's head. "I'm sorry, Major."

A beam, one half a millimeter thick, burned through the layers of skin
and bone in less than a nanosecond. The energy of the beam raised the
fluid in the brain case far past the boiling point as soon as it came into
contact with it. The pulse duration of the beam was less than a
half-second in duration; however, it still managed to explode the head of
the person it was aimed at.

Cindy sighed in relief as she moved over to the shaking girl with the
pistol and hugged her. "Come on love, I need to report this right away.
Ian may want to talk to you too. Okay?"

Shannon nodded her head as Cindy led her back to the bedroom. That way
they could avoid the grisly mess in the lounge. Once again the two women
seated themselves on the bed, Cindy activated the communit in the terminal
so they could have visual as well as voice communications.

"Admiral Williams from Major Williams; Priority."

"Hey Cin, what's up?" Ian asked as his face appeared on the screen.

"Sir, Captain Tauron is dead. He was killed while attempting to shoot
me. Lt. Roberts shot him in the head. He admitted that he was working
for whoever is causing all this."

"I see. Major, You and Lt. Roberts are to report to me in my office
aboard Star Dancer no later than 1100 hours tomorrow. Because he was a
flag officer; Lt Roberts has to be placed under arrest, pending an
investigation but the senior officer. In this case that would be the
Commodore. hI'll notify him first thing in the morning. Until then, I
assume Lt. Roberts will be in your custody?"

   "Yes sir, if that's alright?"

"I don't see a flight risk, and she was acting in good faith. I would
suggest you both return to the Star Dancer tonight. You've both done
enough there."

"Major Williams?" A voice said from the lounge area.

"One moment!" She called back. Turning back to the screen, she told Ian
security had shown up.

"Okay, we'll be spending the night on Prometheus but we'll be back in
the morning."

She nodded and signed off. "You should probably get dressed. I'll go
get security taken care of, and come back. At this point, I'll feel better
once we are home again."

   Again, Shannon just nodded.

"Hey, are you alright?" Cindy asked, concerned.

"Yeah, it just all happened so damn fast" she said.

"Well, let's get home. We can talk on the shuttle if you need to."

Shannon smiled weakly at her friend, "Okay. You better get out there,
they're getting nervous."

Cindy nodded once, and walked out to the lounge.

Shannon, put her ship suit back on, slipped on her boots and sat back
down of the bed to wait for Cindy. She let her mind play back through the
events of the day, and she began to cry softly. She had never killed a man
before, and she did it without hesitation just a few minutes before. She
couldn't help but feel like she had lost a part of herself.

Cindy walked out to the security crew and found three officers in the
lounge, looking over the body of the captain, and two guarding the door.
"Good evening Chief."

   "Damn Major, what happened here?"

"The Captain came to the door claiming he had something he needed to
talk to me about. Once inside, he pulled a gun, and told me he was going
to kill me and Lt. Roberts. Lt Roberts, who was in the bedroom overheard
him, drew my weapon, and prevented him from doing what he said he was going
to do."

"I see. Well, Lt. Roberts and you will have to come down to the brig
until we can get all this sorted out. Where is your weapon now, Major?"

"In the bedroom with my combat suit. I've been ordered to take Lt.
Roberts into custody, and escort her back to the Star Dancer pending an
investigation. So I don't think we'll be going to your brig."

"I'm sorry ma'am, but you will be going to the brig. You are under
arrest for the suspected murder of a flag officer of the Talosian defense
force. Grimes! Take her down and put her in a cell."

One of the men moved behind Cindy and put restraints on her.

Cindy was amazed at the stupidity of some people. "I think you should
call the Admiral to check my orders before you do this. I would also like
to put on some panties before you walk me through the ship."

"I think you are contaminating the crime scene, I really don't think the
Admiral would appreciate getting called out of bed by your claims ma'am.
I'll check with him in the morning. Take her away." The chief ordered.

"I'm his wife you idiot! Call him! I am on a special assignment under
direct order of Admirals Pan and Goya. This was a direct result of that
mission. Under section twenty-three paragraph thirty-four, you are
required to contact my commanding officer. I insist you do so now." Cindy
said, disbelief plainly written on her face.

The chief turned to her, "Very well. I will contact Commodore Hawkins.
Since Admiral Williams is your husband, he cannot be contacted in your
behalf. Poulson; go with her and let her get some panties. Get the other
one from the room as well."

"I insist that I be present when you make that call" Cindy said.

"I don't think so. Regulations may require me to wake up the Commodore,
but nowhere does it say that you have to be present. I'll call him from
the security office. Now move."

   High Priority/Routine - MSG follows:

Due to recent developments, Sol Sector is now under quarantine. Any
ships arriving will be escorted to Antaries Space Port for screening.
Cargo vessels will be boarded before proceeding to their destinations.
This policy will remain in effect until a new customs Station can be built

   ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---

"So, now we need a new captain for the Tiamat. Got any suggestions
Pan?" Goya asked.

"Well, I do have a few people in mind that could do this job, but the
question is: Are they going to be like the last one? No, I think we might
end up having to let Ian and Isaac find one for us. I don't know if I want
to trust any of the people from our systems until we have something set up
to screen them" he answered.

Commodore Hawkins' ears perked up at the mention of his name. "You want
us to find someone?" He paused to think for a second, "I think I might know
a couple of people that would like to join us. They are ship captains now,
so this shouldn't be too much of a stretch for them."

Ian nodded his head, "If either of them have commanded a carrier, it
might be better considering the amount of combat craft the big bitch
carries."

"Actually, both of them have experience commanding carriers, but one
also has commanded a battleship. It'll be tricky to convince him though, I
don't speak Russian very well and his English sucks" he chuckled.

Ian smiled at that, Pan and Goya looked a little confused. "On Earth,
they don't have a common language, so communications can be difficult
sometimes." He paused to consider something, and then voiced his thought.
"You know, in light of current developments, perhaps we should step up our
recruiting effort on Earth. We still need a lot of people, and getting
immigrants from the Talosian systems is going to take some time."

"I agree" Pan said. "Granted, you won't have to train the people from
our systems, but screening them all is going to be a major issue."

"I don't see a problem with recruiting from the Earth, but just
remember; the Alliance does not want the general population to become aware
of galactic events. Now, though I hate to bring this up, Pan and I need to
get back, we've been here three weeks longer than planned, and with this
last announcement, the Counsel is going to get nervous. We need to be back
there to try to get this fixed. Until then; I recommend that Isaac take
command of the Tiamat" Goya said.

"Me sir? I haven't commanded a ship in years!" Isaac responded,
surprised.

"The ship needs a commander, especially if Ian is going to be leaving.
With the Prometheus gone as well, the Tiamat will be the only active ship
in the system. Someone will need to command it so this sector is
protected" Goya explained.

"I understand, sir" Isaac answered, "when are you leaving, Ian?

Goya shook his head, "Do you really think you can take that planet back
from the Imperials?"

"That's one thing we are going to find out, sir. The first part of the
mission is recon. If we can do something to liberate the planet, then we
will. We should be leaving tomorrow, right after the Prometheus leaves for
New Talos" Ian answered.

"I wish you well, the alliance needs some good news right now, and if
you do take back a system it should go a long way to proving the dissidents
wrong" Goya said.

"How did you get that security chief to release Major Williams?" Pan
asked Isaac. "What did you tell him?"

"I simply told him that Major Williams was on a special mission for
military intelligence. If she did shoot the captain it was for a damn good
reason and well within her operational parameters and scope of her mission"
Isaac answered. "He did ask why he wasn't informed of a covert mission on
board his ship."

"I sometimes wonder if anyone really understands what `need to know'
really means?" Goya said, ruefully.

Ian chuckled, "Oh, everyone knows what it means, but think it only
pertains to other people."

"I can't really fault the guy," Isaac said, "He really was only doing
his job."

"Yes he was, and did it quite well. Even though I have to admit hearing
about my wife's arrest was a bit unnerving" Ian said.

"Well, if we are leaving tomorrow, we should get going. My assistant
will want to make sure she gets all her new clothes packed" Pan said.

"It's amazing; no matter what planet they're from - women always love to
shop" Ian joked.

   ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---

"Ladies and gentleman, this is the planet Hyperion. It lies in the
Brataun sector of what used to be Talosian space; forty-nine light years
away. Eighteen years ago this planet fell to an Imperial invasion. It is
also only a half sector from alliance held space, and that border has not
moved since.

The planetary system has one heavy cruiser guarding it. Admiral Goya
told me that the planet itself has one regiment of infantry, as well as
three squadrons of heavy fighters stationed on it. However, the
information he could give me is twelve years old. I plan on retaking this
sector, and liberating the planet" Ian said to the assembled department
heads. The holographic image shifted as he described the plan he and
Admiral Goya decided on.

"Star Dancer will jump in to the sector here." He indicated a spot well
outside the system. "Then proceed into the system at sub-light. Raptor
Damocles and the Centurions will launch at this point. The Centurions will
remain cloaked and fan out to see what ships are in the system. Damocles
will proceed in system to the planet to gather intel on what forces are on
the ground. Specific details and rules of engagement on each of your
respective missions are in the computer. Please take the time to review
them. I also want wing commanders briefed and up to speed, they should
know what they might be up against. If we can pull this off, it'll be the
first major victory against Imperial forces in over three hundred years.
We leave at 1100 hours tomorrow. Any questions?"

"Yes sir. Shouldn't we be worried about the fleet we left in the Rataac
sector? They were pretty close to Benesian space" Commander Harris asked.

"Normally, I would agree with you. However, Intel says we did
considerable damage to the Imperials. The Adonis fleet managed to execute
a plan that did even more damage to the invaders. They withdrew toward the
Benesian home world and have since been re-enforced with units of the
Benesian home guard. They should be able to handle what's left. Any other
questions?" Ian asked. When none were offered, he continued. "Great, we
will go to yellow alert when we drop out of hyper-space, but I only want
one squadron ready to launch. The rest of the pilots can stay in the ready
rooms and we'll rotate squadrons into ready status every two hours. I'll
want the centurion crews boarded and ready to launch as well. Good luck
everyone. Dismissed. Major Williams, please stay."

Cindy sat quietly as the rest of the people left Ian's office. "Sir,
you do remember I'm one crew short?"

"I know Cindy, but you're getting a replacement. This is an unusual way
to do it, but she is training with Ty right now, and will arrive later
tonight to go over things with your team. She's taking a crash course on
heavy weapons and demolition. She swears she can past Ty's final test. Ty
thinks she can too, so, please try to welcome her."

"Another female? I don't know if the boys are going to like that very
much. Ben and Jerry were pretty tore up at losing Sam. They were lovers
before we became a team" She said.

"I know, I read the reports on them. However, for this mission, you
will need her special abilities. She also requested to join your unit
permanently. She understands that she might not fit into the group, and
will accept it if your team rejects her. She only asks for you to give her
a chance. Ty agreed and so did I. The final call will be yours though."

"Okay, I'll give her a chance. What's her name?"

   "Second Lieutenant Shannon Roberts."

"Sir, are you aware she is only 15 years old? Accepting her as a pilot
I can see, but into a Raptor team? She'll feel the mind of everyone she
will have to kill."

"Only at close range, and only if they are human. We tried to dissuade
her using those same arguments, but she insisted she can handle it."

"We'll see. Did she tell you we are mentally bonded? I love her, I
can't help it. It has something to do with a latent part of her ability. I
really don't want to see her hurt" Cindy said, expressing her feelings.

"I know, she told us about it. Personally, I felt it was actually a
benefit in this case. Now you will have someone who cares about you as
much as I do, while you are on a mission. I can't speak for the rest of
the family, but as far as I'm concerned, she is welcome at home as well."

"I suppose I should talk to the family about her, I just didn't know how
to ask. I mean, we all agreed that after Serena, we weren't going to add
anymore wives. Shannon just sorta happened though."

"I think they will understand, after all, Star has become a part time
lover as well. I imagine she'll share our bed while you and her daughter
are out saving the galaxy" Ian chuckled.

"Smart ass. Okay, I'll go talk to my team and prepare them for our
replacement. I'll talk to the family tonight."

"Okay, dismissed. I'll see you tonight."

Cindy stood and saluted Ian. She opened the door, and almost ran over
Beth and Talena. "Hi lovers! Were you waiting for me, or do you need to
talk to our fearless leader?"

"Actually, we are here to spend lunch with Ian, Jenny will be back in a
minute. Can you join us?" Talena said.

"You know, that sounds like a great idea!" She said.

   ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---

Shalo slowly walked into his office. The braces and cane he was using
irritated him. The doctor insisted that he had to use them until the bones
regained their former strength. If he was back in the core systems, the
bones would have been fused back together, and he would have walked out a
day later. Fucking back-water planet.

He had a job to do, and orders from the emperor to employ. The troops
he had sent to Hyperion had left the day before, and were scheduled to make
planet fall in four days. He also sent out orders to send 30 light
cruisers to search the quadrant where the new weapons facility is rumored
to be. He had hoped that Imperial command would send him a few more ships
to do this search. His forces were getting much too thin as it was.
Losses had been higher of late, and he didn't want to lose any systems by
stripping them of ships. He had finally decided to strip some forces from
the rear. Those planets had been under Imperial control of the better part
of a thousand years, so there was little danger of them being lost to the
Alliance. It would take them longer to get into position, but he felt he
had time. However, if he had to move a heavy cruiser to take care of
Hyperion; he would be weakening one of his fleets.

   "Report, Glump."

She rose, and almost ran to his desk. Her eyes however never left the
floor in front of her. "My Lord, The Benesian mission is underway. The
two fleets have met up, and are moving toward the home world. However, we
have sustained heavy losses due to a ruse by the Talosian fleet we were
trying to trap."

"What? How much have we lost? Since when do the Talosians employ
deception in their tactics?"

"This is the first time such a ploy has been done, My Lord. The
Talosians have always been pathetically predictable in their tactics. Our
spies tell us there is a new commander, and Admiral..." She looked through
a stack of papers she brought with her. "Here it is; an Admiral Williams.
Apparently his tactics are highly controversial and offensive to the rest
of the Talosian command. A report was presented to the Talosian counsel
that told of sabotage, and attempted assassinations in his command.
Perhaps this was a ploy he suggested to the Talosian commander?"

   "Possibly, continue."

"Yes, My Lord. The Benesian task force will reach he system in eight
days. They have had to slow down considerably to allow time for repairs. I
have also received an urgent request for more fighters. Two of the heavy
cruisers are down to less than half of their compliment, and all but four
of the light cruisers don't have any. Most were lost in the battle that
claimed the Treel.

The Fleet sustained even more damage after jumping into that mine field,
and combined with the normal losses from our other ships, the total fighter
compliment is down to less than a third of total. We also lost another
heavy cruiser, two light cruisers, and five destroyers. Our total
available force there is now at four heavy cruisers, six light cruisers,
eleven destroyers, and just under two thousand fighter craft. The troop
transports are all currently intact, and following along behind the fleet."
She paused and switched to a different report. "The fighting in the Crough
and Trant sectors continues, however the Loudin and Frento sectors seem to
have slacked off."

"The two sectors that are both Talosian?" Shalo asked

"Yes sir. The Frento sector is a mix of alliance forces, but the Loudin
is almost exclusively Talosian. The local commanders believe that they are
waiting for re-enforcements or replacements."

"Do we have sufficient forces in those sectors to press the advantage?"

"No sir, not until replacements arrive from central. We can hold the
line, but that's about it. I would imagine those commanders are relieved
for the break. They have been under siege for the better part of the last
three cycles" Glump reported.

"Very well, leave the reports. I'll have to figure out a way to ask for
more support without asking for more support. Tell the line commanders to
do their best, and issue orders to the Benesian forces to make best speed
to Benesia. The next supply ships are due in later this week?"

   "Yes, My Lord."

"Very well, get back to work." Shalo sat back to think. He had to get
three more capitol ships, not to mention the light cruisers, destroyers,
and almost 4000 more fighters sent to him. If just out-right asked, it
would mean his head. Perhaps a little creative report writing...

   ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---

"Okay guys, I know you're all still grieving our loss, but we must go
on. We have another mission that I will brief you on tomorrow evening. For
now however, I need to tell you that we are getting a replacement." Cindy
held her hand up as Ben and Sasha both opened their mouths to say
something.

"I know, that it's pretty fast, and Ian asked me to ask you for your
forgiveness, and patience with the new person. Admiral Williams told me we
would need her special talents during our next mission. She has applied
for permanent assignment to us, but has been told that she might not fit
in. However, we will need her on this mission. I know her, and she is a
nice person. Please let's try to give her a chance?"

"Another female?" Jerry asked. "That throws us out of balance."

"No more than a male would. What does it matter? I think we should try
to give her a chance" Sasha replied.

"I just get three women that I can actually speak to, and now you are
going to bring in another one?" Ben said.

"Trust me, Ben" Cindy said, "She is very easy to talk to."

"You slut! You've already slept with her, haven't you!" Ben said, a
small grin on his face.

"Slut? Look who's talking, Mr. I-can't-talk-to-girls' while you have
your arm around Sasha!" Cindy shot back. "Besides, no, I haven't if you
must know, that idiot fucking captain interrupted us."

"Are you going to tell us who she is? What's she like?" Lissa asked
from her place next to Jerry.

"I can tell you her name, it's Shannon. Other than that, you have to
find out for yourselves. I don't want my thoughts on the matter to
influence yours. She will be joining us later this evening. Lissa and I
will be meeting her at twenty hundred hours on Beta deck. Until then, I
want this ship rigged for ground assault. Ben, Jerry, load the heavy
weapons for our late arrival. Sasha, Lissa, please double check the
targeting systems, and the hyperdrive. Let's get to it people!"
