Chapter Two - A True Vacation, a True Friend The rest of November was filled with hockey as Dave played for the AAA team and occasionally was called up for the major midget team. Dave's AAA team was still leading the league but the team's offense usually had to score six or seven goals to compensate for a weak defense and marginal goaltending. John and Dave spent a lot of time together and John joined Dave in his workout routine. Julie commented how Dave seemed to be getting much thicker through the chest and arms. Dave had attained his two hundred and ten pound goal and reduced his reconditioning visits with Elliot to once a month. He also had his last physiotherapy visit with Randy the first week of December; Randy wished Dave all the best. Both trainers were impressed by the way Dave had stuck to his program. School had returned to the way it was the previous winter. Dave and John remained in the outer circle of all the cliques with shared friends in all groups. The school's Christmas dance was quickly approaching and, while John already had a hot date lined up, Dave was undecided whether or not he would even go. John finally convinced Dave to go two weeks before the dance. Dave had been considering asking Katherine Murray on a date, so he decided to ask her to the dance. Katherine was a very pretty girl with short black hair. Dave had noticed she had beautiful legs which led to an heart-stopping round firm-looking ass. Her breasts were small, high-set apples which suited her trim, firm body. The biggest problem Dave foresaw was that Katherine was a peripheral member of the "in-crowd" and he was afraid she would turn him down to not risk the wrath of the still-offended Susie. In the end, Dave decided to just ask her to the dance and let her respond. The next day in school, when Dave passed Katherine talking to several of her friends, he asked her if he could speak to her alone. She smiled at her friends then followed him to a quiet area where he asked her to the dance. He was happy to hear her immediately reply. Yes. After thinking about Katherine being influenced by Susie, he had to ask, "Aren't you worried about what Susie will say?" Katherine replied, "Actually, Susie and I are cousins. She might get angry for a while but our family is pretty close so she would be in big trouble with the whole family if she treated me poorly. The truth is I've liked you for a couple of years now and Susie knows I would not say no to you regardless of her opinion." Dave was surprised and pleased to hear she had liked him for a long time. Feeling more confident now, he suggested an add-on date, "Would you like to go to a show this Saturday night?" Katherine replied, "I'd love to go. Have you seen the second 'Lord of the Rings' movie which came out last week?" Dave answered, inserting another expansion, "No, I haven't seen it yet. Can I pick you up at five o'clock, after my game? Then we can get a bite to eat before the show." Katherine trumped his suggestion, "Why don't I just go with you from the rink." She stared at her feet, suddenly a little bashful. "I've seen every one of your home games this year; so I'll be at the rink anyway." Dave was again surprised; he had noticed her at a few games but only now realized she must have really had a crush on him. He replied, "Sounds great. I'll find you after the game. See you later." Dave smiled and excitedly walked to his next class. Katherine replied, "See you soon, Dave." She watched him stride off. Dave thought about Katherine all week and anxiously waited for his game and their date. When Saturday finally arrived, Dave utilized his extra energy and played his best game of the year. They played against the second place team and Dave had five goals and two assists. His team won seven-four and Dave was in on every goal. His teammates teased him about putting on a show for Katherine. In the three days between Dave asking her to the show and his game, the entire school knew that they were now dating. Dave walked out of the dressing room with his hockey bag over his shoulder. He smiled at Katherine who was standing with several of his teammates' girlfriends. She walked up to him and they left the rink together. Dave's father had given him the car for the night, so, after he loaded his gear into the trunk, he opened Katherine's door before he climbed into the driver's seat. They went to Burger King for a light meal, then went to the cinema. They enjoyed the movie. Dave casually took Katherine's hand in his half-way through the show and they watched the rest of the movie holding hands. Dave continued to hold Katherine's hand as they left the cinema and walked to the car. He again opened her door for her. They agreed to find their friends who were probably at the local McDonalds. After they pulled into the parking lot, they walked into the restaurant hand-in-hand. Dave bought a small snack for them and they sat quietly and ate. After she finished eating, Katherine went to talk to her friends and Dave spotted John and went to talk to him. John asked, "Have a good first date?" Dave replied, "Excellent. Katherine is really nice. How did your team do today?" John looked a little disappointed, "We lost four-three. We could really have used you. I hear you were like Wayne Gretzky in your game this afternoon. Were you trying to impress your new girlfriend?" Dave thought about the phrase "new girlfriend" for a minute then nodded, "Yeah, I guess I was." Just then, Katherine walked up beside Dave and stood very close to him so he placed his arm around her shoulder and she cuddled into him. Dave smiled at her and said, "You know John, don't you?" Katherine smiled at John, "Yes, we are in the same chemistry class. Hi, John." John smiled back at Katherine, "Hi, Katherine." Dave added, "Katherine, do you mind if we double with John and his date for the dance?" Katherine replied, "No, I don't mind at all; that will be fun." The teens talked for a while longer before Dave suggested he and Katherine go for a drive. She agreed and they drove around town for an hour. Dave found Katherine very easy to talk to. At eleven-thirty he pulled up in front of her house and walked her to the door. He was feeling a little nervous about their first kiss but finally leaned down and gently kissed her on the lips. It was a soft tender kiss. Dave broke the kiss and said quietly, "I had a great time tonight." Katherine replied, "I did, too." Dave leaned down and kissed her cheek, "I'll see you at school on Monday." She answered, "Yeah, I'll see you then." Dave turned and walked to his car. She watched until the car was out of sight, then turned and went into her house. Dave felt wonderful inside and the drive home passed quickly. When he entered his house, his mom was waiting up for him. She was sitting on the couch and, as soon as Dave entered, she said, "Congratulations on a great game. Your father and I are very proud of you, Dave." Dave nodded. Then his mom continued, "Julie pointed out your date. She is really cute. Were you showing off a little for her in the game?" Dave chuckled, "Yes, I was. Was it that obvious? Anyway, she's really nice; I think I could get to like her a lot." Carol smiled back at Dave then stood and walked to him, "I'm glad you're seeing someone new. It breaks my heart to see you alone. I'm heading up to bed. Goodnight and sleep well." Dave replied, "Goodnight, Mom." Dave slept well that night thinking about Katherine, her soft lips, and her firm young body. Dave had an away game on Sunday - his team had to drive two hours to play the western team. The western team was in last place in the league but they had a really good goalie. Dave always found this team difficult and couldn't understand why they were in last place. They eked out a four-three win, but it was a hard-fought victory. Dave arrived home at seven o-clock and decided it was still early enough in the day to call Katherine. He told her about the game and they talked for over an hour on the phone. Dave and Katherine spent a lot of time together that week and went out again on Saturday night. After spending some time at the local hangouts they went for a drive. Dave asked if she wanted to park for a while and she nervously said okay. The best place to go for a little privacy was the city's largest park, Victoria Park. Dave parked in an area overlooking the harbour. There were several other cars there and Dave noticed immediately that all the windows on the other cars were steamed up. As soon as Dave shut off the car, he turned and faced Katherine. He leaned towards her and kissed her tenderly. Her lips were soft and her invigorating perfume filled his lungs. He slowly worked his tongue into her mouth as his hands rubbed her back and shoulders. Katherine seemed a little tentative but slowly became more comfortable with his tender, massaging hands. After kissing for several minutes, he gently moved a hand around to the front and cupped one of her small, firm breasts. Katherine immediately tensed up and pulled away from him. She moved his hand away from her chest, lowered her head, and started looking at her hands which were now sitting in her lap. She whispered, "Maybe this wasn't such a good idea." Dave was a little surprised by her sudden nervousness and the way she had pulled into a defensive posture. He moved his hand to her chin and turned her face to look into her eyes. "I'm sorry, Katherine. I like you a lot. I just got a little carried away." A tear ran down her cheek. When she looked into Dave's eyes she could see his concern for her and she immediately knew she could trust him completely. She spoke softly, "Dave, I have a confession. I am still a virgin and I plan to stay that way for the indefinite future. I really care for you -- but I decided long ago that I want to save myself for the man I hope will be my husband. I know it sounds kind of old fashioned and silly; but I'm not ready to have sex with you or anyone yet. I'm sorry and I would understand if you didn't want to see me again." Dave looked into Katherine's eyes and saw the flood of emotion she was experiencing. Although he had fantasized about making love to her, he knew at the same time how much he really liked her. He smiled into her wet, teary eyes and spoke very softly, "Katherine, I definitely want to continue being with you. I really enjoy the time we spend together. I'd be lying if I said I don't want to make love to you because I would really like to be intimate with you someday -- but that doesn't have to be tonight, this week or even this year. When we are both ready, someday it might happen. Until that day comes I would like us to continue dating. I find you very easy to talk to and comfortable to be with. If that day never comes; then so be it." Then he took a breath after all that had spilled out in one rush. Katherine's face showed relief as she cuddled back into Dave's arms. She replied, "I'd like that, Dave. I like you too -- and maybe someday I'll be ready." They kissed and talked for another hour. Dave respected her wishes and didn't make any more advances beyond kissing. The Christmas dance went well and Dave had a wonderful night with Katherine. Susie was there with her entourage but, as Katherine had predicted, Susie kept a polite distance. After the dance night, Christmas was only a week away so Dave went out to do his shopping. He found a nice teddy bear for Katherine and bought a pretty pair of earrings. He placed the earrings in the bear's ears and then wrapped them in a large box. While he was shopping, he also saw a beautiful necklace with a heart-shaped pendant. Dave bought the pendant and had it engraved "Love Always. Dave". Dave had the pendant gift-wrapped, then he went to the card store and bought two cards. One was a nice loving card for Katherine. The second was a very sincere "I miss you" card. After he had bought gifts for the rest of his family, he returned home. Dave found a small box to mail the "I miss you" card and the wrapped pendant gift. He wrapped it in brown paper and mailed it to Jennifer. He then wrapped the rest of his presents in colorful paper. On Christmas Eve Dave's family went to Alan's house for their annual get together. Katherine spent an hour with Dave and his family before Dave drove her home. At Katherine's house, they opened each other's gifts and she loved the teddy bear and earrings. She had bought Dave a nice chain for his neck and it fit perfectly. After she placed the chain around his neck she removed the old earrings she was wearing and handed Dave the teddy bear, "Will you put my earrings on for me?" He smiled and gently put the earrings in her ears. She smiled, "Does this mean I'm pinned?" Dave chuckled at her reference to the old phrase. He smiled, "Yes, this means were are officially a couple and I will be faithful to you and I hope you will be faithful to me." Katherine jumped into his arms, "You are the only boy I want." On Christmas morning Dave got an awesome surprise gift. His parents handed him an envelope for Christmas, he had no idea what he was getting. When he opened the envelope and read the note explaining a one week golf trip to Myrtle Beach in February, he was ecstatic. His father explained that he and his brother Alan were going to drive down and spend a week golfing in Myrtle Beach; they wanted Dave - and John, if possible - to join them. He had chosen the second week of February so as not to interfere with Dave's hockey playoffs. Dave phoned John shortly after Roger explained everything. By the end of Christmas day, John had his father convinced to let him go with his best friend to South Carolina. Dave was pleased that January passed quickly. Hockey, school, and time with Katherine were all going very well. Dave was pleasantly surprised one night in mid January when Katherine took the initiative and placed his hand on her breast while they were kissing and necking in his tv room. By the time February arrived, she was allowing Dave total access to her lovely breasts but everything below the belt was still off limits. The increasing intimacy with Katherine was enjoyable, but did leave Dave aroused and unsatisfied. Rather than pressure Katherine to go beyond her limits, Dave resorted to the joys of dates with the palm sisters in order to relieve the sexual pressures as they built up. After a summer filled with real sex, it was very much a nostalgia thing. Dave's hockey wrist shot was getting better each month and he wondered if all his work with the palm sisters was part of the reason. Dave's fondness for Katherine continued to grow deeper and deeper but, in his heart, he knew it would take a long time for Katherine to reach the same status that his long-term friend Jennifer held. Dave had hoped he would hear from Jennifer after Christmas but there was no card or phone call. His mom, who had talked to Jennifer's mother Heather, reported that Jennifer was doing much better. Dave could not tell whether that meant Jennifer had, through dating Alex, become re-established with her friends. The vision of animal Alex having sex with 'his' sensitive Jennifer flashed through Dave's head; it was an ugly thought and Dave decided to not dwell on the possibility. When the day to leave for Myrtle Beach finally arrived, Dave and John were both incredibly excited. Dave, Roger, Alan, and John left QAI early in the morning on Friday and drove until late in the evening. They stopped for the night in Waterbury, Connecticut. After an early departure, the four islanders arrived in Myrtle Beach late in the evening on Saturday. The weather got steadily warmer on Saturday and, when they drove past Richmond, Virginia, the winter coats were put away until the return trip. They weren't actually staying in Myrtle Beach but just north of the border in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. They were staying in a condo unit on the Colonies of Oyster Bay. It was dark when they arrived and Dave and John excitedly emptied the van. Roger and Alan, who had been taking turns driving, rested while the two eager teens put everything away. They were all tired from the long drive -- so they simply went to bed. Their first round of golf was scheduled at Angel's Trace - North Course at eleven-thirty. John and Dave were wide awake at seven o'clock and went for a walk while the two adults slept in. Dave and John were surprised to find a fairway just outside the back door to their condo. They walked onto the course and looked up and down the fairway before giving each other a high five and going back to the room. They each pulled a club out of their bag and went outside to swing them. Roger and Alan woke up around eight o'clock. They drove into Myrtle Beach and stopped at Denny's for breakfast. None of them had ever been to Myrtle Beach before and all were surprised by the huge number of golf shops, retail stores, and miniature golf courses. They drove back to Angel's Trace which was just around the corner from their condo. Dave and John immediately went to the driving range to hit balls. Dave was a little surprised by how tight his swing felt but, after thirty minutes, he was finally putting solid swings on his irons. When he eventually pulled out his driver, he was in for another huge surprise. His nicely controlled draw from last spring was gone - replaced by a huge, uncontrollable duck hook. He adjusted his grip and hit a few good drives but on the fourth swing he hit a very uncharacteristic slice. He then tried adjusting his feet - still no control. Dave worked on his driver for an hour but never found the solution. When it was finally time to tee-off on the first hole, Dave had no idea what to hit off the tee. The first hole was a long par five so Dave pulled out his driver. He hit a big hook and ended up one fairway over. After the other three hit, Dave and John drove down the course on their golf cart. Those electric carts or cars are generally required at all these courses in order to keep up the overall pace on the course. Dave found his ball and hit a decent long iron shot back into his own fairway. He put the next shot on the green and made a par. John's drive was in the middle of the fairway and he hit a good second shot up the middle. His short wedge shot finished five feet from the hole and he happily made birdie on the first hole he played in the new year. Roger and Alan made par and bogey respectively on the first hole. Dave found the rest of the round enjoyable but slightly frustrating. He had never imagined he would totally lose control of his driver. He only hit two more drivers for the rest of the round and ended up in trouble each time. He instead hit his two-iron off most tees. At the end of the round, Dave had shot seventy-four, John was lowest in the group with seventy-three while Roger and Alan shot eighty and eighty-four respectively. Dave was very frustrated with his driver but he was so happy to be playing again that he quickly forgot about the duck hooks. After the golf, the foursome went to a local Food Lion grocery and purchased supplies. They returned to the condo and cooked a good homemade supper before heading out to explore Myrtle Beach. Dave was again surprised by all the golf shops and they stopped at several to check out the goods. There was a huge Golf Dimensions store, bigger than some department stores on QAI. Directly across the street was a Martin's Golf and Tennis Shop which was just as big or bigger. Dave's father had told him that there were more than one-hundred and twenty golf courses in and around Myrtle Beach and, after seeing all the golf stores, Dave decided this was definitely golfer's heaven. Roger convinced Dave to hold off on any major golf purchases until after they had seen a variety of stores. Their fourth stop was a golf shoe store where Dave found a size eleven pair of shoes that he liked. The price was cheap at $20 dollars. Dave was tired of wearing his sneakers because he had outgrown his golf shoes from the previous summer so Roger approved the purchase. John found a pair he liked for a good price as well. The four men returned to the condo and went right to bed. Their eight-thirty tee time would require them to be on the road shortly after seven. The next course was Diamond Back which was named for the large number of snake areas in and around the course. QAI has no snakes or major predatory animals so the idea of playing a course named for its snake population was intriguing yet intimidating. When they arrived at the course, the starter explained that the rattlesnakes normally hibernated until March or April so they would not likely see any that day. In the clubhouse Dave found a glass display with a large stuffed Diamond Back snake in it. One of the staff explained they had found that very snake under the clubhouse. Dave was suddenly very pleased that they were playing here in February and not March or April. Dave and John didn't have time to hit balls today so instead just putted and chipped to warm up. They were teeing off on the tenth hole today and Dave asked the starter why. The starter explained that most courses in Myrtle Beach send golfers off both the front and back nines to allow more players to play. He further explained that flags were attached to the last groups' golf cars so he could identify when the last group had passed the clubhouse for their second nine holes. After the last group moved onto the second nine, the second flight of golfers could start on the course. That is why tee times usually ranged from seven to nine and eleven-thirty to one-thirty. Diamond Back was another beautiful golf course and Dave was pleased that most holes were set up to hit irons off the tee. Dave played better today and shot the low round of seventy-one. John was close behind at seventy-two while Roger and Alan were both eighty-two. When the round was over, Dave and John went straight to the driving range where Dave hit two buckets of balls. He was trying to correct his driver but he still couldn't fix it. Roger called them into the clubhouse to eat dinner. After eating Roger asked if they wanted to play Diamond Back again, when they finished eating. Dave and John both nodded yes, so Roger went to the pro shop to check on the re-play rate. He returned with a piece of paper for the starter and explained that the re- play rate was $30 each compared to the $80 walk on green fee rate. The second round on the course went much better for all golfers. Dave was again low with a sixty-nine while John was one stroke behind at seventy. Roger shot seventy-nine and Alan shot eighty. By the end of the second round all four golfers were very tired and went straight back to the condo. Dave cooked his famous spaghetti supper and, after everyone ate, they cleaned up and went right to bed. The course the next day was Myrtle Beach National - South Creek course. Their tee time was not until eleven forty-five so everyone slept in. They awoke around nine o'clock and ate breakfast in the condo before getting on the road for the thirty minute drive. This was the longest drive from the condo but Roger told the group a friend from work had highly recommended this course and the drive was supposed to be worth it. The South Creek course was the type of course with houses along the sides of most fairways. Dave decided immediately that his driver would remain in the bag for this course. One errant hook and he guessed he would hear breaking glass. Dave and John loved the course and, with their good control, both shot in the low seventies again. Roger and Alan weren't nearly as comfortable with the additional hazards of the houses and both shot in the high eighties. Roger was growling that he would give his supposed friend hell for putting him through the torture. Roger and Alan stood on almost every tee afraid they were going to hit a house. Dave and John had great fun teasing the two older golfers. At one point Roger was fishing his ball out of someone's backyard when Dave yelled, "Get out of my yard!" Roger jumped in fright and then turned on Dave, growling at him for scaring him. When the round was finally over, Dave and John teased, "Can we check the price on a re-play?" Roger and Alan both glared at the two young men who immediately broke into a fit of laughter. Supper that night was quiet as both Roger and Alan took some time to shake off all the teasing. The next round was a course called Brick Landing which was only ten minutes from the condo. Dave and John both found this course very challenging. Most holes had some form of water hazard on them and a lot of holes had water running beside the fairway for the entire length of the fairway. Even Roger and Alan liked this course although they lost a lot of balls. Because of an early eight o'clock tee time, the foursome finished just after noon. The re-play price was only $20, so they decided to eat a quick dinner before playing again. John beat Dave by one stroke in the morning shooting seventy-one; Roger and Alan both shot in the mid eighties. The afternoon round was all Dave, as she shot his best round of the week - sixty-eight. He started hitting his three wood off the tee with decent results. John shot seventy while both Roger and Alan shot seventy-nine. Alan was very pleased with his round and offered to buy pizza for their late supper. After a good feed of pizza, the four golfers again went right to bed. Thursday's course was River's Edge. It was twenty minutes away and their tee time was at noon, so they slept in until nine, then ate a leisurely breakfast in the condo. During the drive to the course Roger explained that River's Edge had been designed by golf legend Arnold Palmer from Pennsylvania. As they entered the course, they immediately noticed large amounts of real estate for sale. Very few lots were sold and Dave thought how great it would be to live on a course designed by Palmer. Later a course employee told them that the least expensive lot was $40,000 and some were over $100,000. Dave's dream of living on a golf course evaporated instantly. River's Edge was the nicest course they had played all week. The condition of the course was perfect and the layout was exceptional. Dave had the low score with seventy-one while John had his worst day with seventy-seven. Alan beat Roger by one stroke by shooting eighty-two. The drive back to the condo was filled with discussions about the numerous beautiful holes on the course. After dropping the clubs off at the condo, they went into Myrtle Beach to eat supper. Roger wanted to eat at a seafood restaurant but John and Dave tried to convince him to go to Hooters. Finally Alan broke the deadlock by supporting Hooters. Dave and John enjoyed the tight outfits of the waitress but were not overly impressed with the reputation of the restaurant. The food was decent but seemed slightly expensive. It was obvious they were paying a premium for the eye candy. When supper was finished, the foursome went shopping again. Dave thought he could look at golf equipment everyday all-day and not get bored. They bought some golf balls and gloves but no major items. The television weatherman was predicting a very wet day for Friday and he was bang-on as the rain started to fall through the night and never stopped all day. The foursome drove to Sea Trail golf course but didn't play because of the poor weather. They waited around for an hour but, when it was obvious the rain wasn't going to let up, they went back to the condo. Roger suggested they go to the factory outlet stores they had passed on the way to and from Myrtle Beach National. They spent several hours shopping and both Dave and John bought sneakers and clothing at the Nike outlet store. Roger and Alan both found nice presents for their wives. Dave eventually found a Nautica fleece jacket he could give to Katherine. The four tired shoppers returned to the condo during the afternoon and spent a quiet night watching television. Saturday was their last day of golf and, luckily, the rain had stopped. They checked out of the condo early and loaded up the van. The plan was to play an early round at Sandpiper Bay Golf Course before getting on the road for home. The golf went well but the course was not nearly as nice as the River's Edge, which had quickly became the benchmark for all the courses they played. John recovered from his poor previous round and shot the low score of seventy-two. Dave was seventy-three while Roger was eighty-one and Alan was Eighty-three. The foursome ate a quick lunch before heading for home. Saturday was a long day and they drove late into the night until they reached Waterbury, again. Sunday was another long day of driving and all four men were tired when they finally reached QAI. Dave found the drive home much longer and figured that the excitement of going had made the drive down seem shorter. Katherine was happy to see Dave the following day in school and Dave asked her to a show that night. They both enjoyed the show and Dave gave her the present when he dropped her off. They continued to spend a lot of time together and, when Dave wasn't in school or at hockey, he tended to be with Katherine. He had, now that he had wheels, developed a pattern of picking her up and dropping her off so they could travel to and from school together and talk. The regular season for hockey ended two weeks after Dave returned from Myrtle Beach. His AAA team finished in first place and were scheduled to play the western team in the first round in a best of five playoff. Dave's team had home ice advantage and in game one Dave lead his team with three goals and an assist - they won six-four. The western team had put a shadow on Dave - a shadow meant one player was assigned to continuously cover Dave and prevent him from scoring. The shadow strategy obviously had limited success. Game two was at the western team's rink. The two hour drive was long and tiring. Katherine traveled with Dave in his father's car. The western team's goalie had a magnificent game and the team assigned two players to shadow Dave instead of one. Dave had a hard time shaking both players and was limited to one assist in a four-two loss. The series was now tied one-one and the third game was scheduled for Tuesday night in Edwardton. Dave was psyched and ready that day at school and, after he dropped Katherine off after school, he went home to get a little rest. Dave had just entered his house when he heard the phone ringing. He picked up the receiver and was surprised to hear a very upset and crying Jennifer. She cried, "Dave, I need you. Dad collapsed at work today and he's in the hospital. I don't know what to do. Mom is here with me at the hospital but I need you. Can you come here immediately? I'm so scared." Dave was shocked by Jennifer's words and knew it had to be really bad for her to call him. He immediately replied, "I'm on my way. I'll see you in a couple of hours." Dave hung up the phone just as Beth walked into the kitchen. He explained the situation and asked her to tell their parents where he was going. Dave was about to rush out the door when he remembered his hockey game. He found the phone book and dialed his coach's number. When his coach answered, Dave explained, "Coach, it's Dave calling. I can't make the game tonight. I have a family emergency and have to leave for Charlestown immediately. I'm really sorry I have to miss the game but I have to leave immediately." Dave realized he was repeating himself but the coach seemed to understand even though he was worried about his team. Dave hung up and was about to rush out the door a second time when he realized he would probably not be coming home tonight so he quickly grabbed a few extra clothes, stuffed them in a backpack and rushed out the door. The drive to Charlestown was frantic and Dave arrived in under two hours. He rushed into the hospital and, after receiving directions, found the intensive care unit. There was a waiting area just outside the unit. As soon as Jennifer saw him, she rushed to him and launched herself into his arms. Dave held and wordlessly cuddled her - he was so happy to have her back in his arms - he just wished that the circumstances were different. Dave eventually asked, "How is your dad?" Jennifer sobbed, "He's stabilized now; but the next forty-eight hours will be very important." Dave spoke softly, "Do you know what happened?" Jennifer explained, "He was at work when he collapsed. The secretary heard a crash in his office and rushed to his assistance." Jennifer began to cry louder, "The doctor said if she hadn't reacted so quickly, he would likely have died. She called 911 and then found someone in the office to help. They gave him CPR and revived him. The doctors think he had a heart attack." Jennifer started to cry on Dave's shoulder, so he just held her tenderly. Dave led Jennifer back to the chair she had been sitting in when he first saw her. He sat in the chair beside her but she immediately sat on his lap and hugged him. Within a few minutes, Heather came walking up the hall. She looked extremely worn out and Dave could tell she had been crying as well. She sat beside Dave, took his hand and kissed his cheek. "Thank you for coming, Dave - Jennifer really needs you. I've been spending most of my time with Ron. He is still unconscious but the doctors say he has stabilized. I am going to spend the night here with him, so would you mind staying with Jennifer for the night?" Dave hugged Heather, "I'm here as long as you need me. I brought some extra clothes, so I'm okay for the night." Heather then looked at Jennifer, "Jennifer, I know you want to stay here but you have been here for six hours, now. I will call you at home whenever there is any news." Heather looked at Dave, "Will you take her home and try to get her to rest." Dave nodded his agreement before he stood and led Jennifer out of the hospital. Jennifer remained plastered to Dave's side as they walked to the car. The drive to Jennifer's house passed quickly. He helped her into the house and led her to the living room where they sat on the couch and held each other. Dave realized he was getting hungry and asked if she had eaten. She said no, so he said he would prepare something for them to eat. He went in the kitchen, found enough supplies to make spaghetti, and cooked a nice meal. He checked on Jennifer several times -- she had fallen peacefully asleep on the couch. When the meal was ready, he woke her and convinced her to eat with him. After supper, Dave escorted Jennifer back to the couch where they again sat and cuddled. Jennifer started to cry again, "Dave, I was so scared he was going to die. I don't know what I would do without him. I love him so much and Mom and I need him. He works much too hard." Dave just nodded and agreed that her dad worked too hard. Jennifer continued, "I wanted to call you but I didn't know if you would want me to bother you. I haven't been very nice to you since the summer but, deep in my heart, I knew you would look after me. I love you, Dave, and I'm sorry I was so mean to you." Dave hugged her tighter, "I told you I would always be here for you and I will. Your dad is a very strong man and he will fight through this. I'm glad you called me. I love you too and I would be very upset if I found out you had gone through this alone." Dave looked down at her and for the first time he noticed the pendant he had given her for Christmas was hanging from her neck. His heart fluttered as he realized she must still truly love him if she were wearing his gift. Jennifer looked deep into Dave's eyes, then kissed him tenderly. The kiss was very soft and Dave was happy to have Jennifer back where she belonged. As their lips parted, Dave again looked at the pendant and this time Jennifer noticed his look. She looked down bashfully, "I meant to call and thank you but I felt so bad for how I treated you, that I chickened out." Dave lifted her chin and looked into her eyes with all the love he could imagine, "I love you, I will always love you. Don't ever be afraid to call me. As I have said many times, I will always be here for you, ALWAYS!" They kissed again tenderly. Eventually, Jennifer asked how his winter was going and Dave went into a long explanation about the trip to Myrtle Beach and about his hockey. He didn't mention anything about missing the playoff game because he didn't want her to feel guilty. After he had talked for over an hour, he finally looked at Jennifer and said, "I've been babbling on for over an hour and haven't asked how you have been doing." Jennifer smiled, "I'm so happy to hear you have had a good winter. As you know mine started kind of rough but I took control of the situation near the end of November and had a much better time after that." Dave looked at her quizzically and asked, "What do you mean, you took control?" Jennifer cuddled closer to Dave then started her long detailed story. She explained how, after he had abruptly gone home last fall, she had a long talk with her parents who helped her realize that her friends that didn't believe her weren't really friends at all. She explained how she had a final and major fight with her friends as a group, most had abandoned her but three really good friends stood by her. She and those three friends went their separate way from the other group. She explained that Alex boringly kept whining about Dave hitting him. Alex was clumsy and insensitive as he tried to force sexual intimacy on Jennifer before she was ready. When Alex had tried to push a finger into her when they were out on a date, she was very surprised and shocked by his rudeness. Not long afterward, she overheard him bragging about how he was getting into her pants; she immediately broke off the limited relationship she had with him. She said she hadn't dated anyone else and was hoping that, when she returned to QAI next summer, she could get back together with Dave. The phone suddenly rang and Jennifer jumped and rushed to answer it. Dave heard her talking and could tell it was her mother. He could tell by her tone that she was getting good news. When she was finished talking, she ran into Dave's arms, "Dad's awake and doing well. Mom said she was still going to stay the night but wanted to let me know that he is doing much better. I wanted to go see him but Mom said I should wait until the morning." Jennifer hugged Dave and they kissed again tenderly. Dave looked at his watch and was surprised to see it was almost ten o'clock. He said, "I'm going to call Mom and Dad and let them know how your father is." Dave stood up and went to the phone. He called home and his father answered. Dave explained how Ron was doing and how Heather had asked him to stay with Jennifer. Roger asked Dave to wish Ron the best from him and Carol. Dave asked if his Dad heard how his team had done and Roger told him that they lost to the western team. Dave had been afraid that might happen and he wished he could have been there -- but he had no regrets about coming to his dear friend's aid. When Dave returned to the living room, Jennifer asked if he was ready to go to bed. She explained she wanted to be able to get up early and go see her dad as soon as possible the next morning. Dave said he was ready and went to the front door area where he had left his backpack. Dave knew where the spare room was so he followed Jennifer upstairs and at the top he turned right as she turned left. He walked into the spare room and threw down his bag before he went to the washroom down the hall. As he exited the washroom, Jennifer was standing nude beside the door to the spare room. She smiled at him, "I have really missed you and I don't want to sleep alone tonight. Can I sleep with you?" Dave looked at her breath-taking body. He had dreamed about her so many nights since the summer that, when he finally saw her large firm breasts and soft blonde bush, he didn't know what to say. An image of Katherine's angry face suddenly popped into his head. He was torn but he knew what had to be done. He walked to Jennifer and gently took her hands in his. He looked into her eyes and explained, "Jennifer, I love you very much but we can only sleep together; nothing else. I hadn't told you but I now have a girlfriend on QAI and I won't be unfaithful to her, just as I would never be unfaithful to you if we are going out. As long as you understand that all we can do is sleep, then I would love for you to join me in bed." Jennifer looked disappointed but replied, "Okay, I understand. Do you want me to put some pajamas on?" Dave smiled, "That's up to you. I would love to feel your soft skin against mine; so I don't mind if you remain beautifully naked." Jennifer smiled, walked into the room, and crawled into bed. Dave stripped down to his boxers, then looked at Jennifer's smiling face and dropped them to the floor as well. He climbed into bed and was very happy when Jennifer spooned her back to him. He put his arm around her trying to avoid her breasts as he held her tight against himself. He could feel his hardening pole nestled against Jennifer's firm ass. He kissed her neck and whispered, "I love you. Goodnight." <1st attachment end> ----- ASSM Moderation System Notice------ Notice: This post has been modified from its original format.
