Near the Dominican

His hands are firm and warm on the small of her back.
Her face presses into soft, worn cotton sheets.
"Do you like this," he asks.
A bead of sweat drips from his forehead, landing just above
his right thumb. Her skin feels magnified, turns golden.
From a hidden stereo come the even beats of a guitar,
a keyboard and drums, meshing together. The rhythm is
smooth and steady. She pretends she is in an open house
with flowing white curtains, staring at a windy, moving blue
ocean, somewhere near the Dominican.
"This," she answers, her voice muffled, "this I like. This is
my idea of heaven."
