WHEN THE WIND BLOWS

BY JACLYN LYNCH

Sam is sitting by the window, just watching leaves roll by in the wind.
Autumn was her favourite time of the year. Her mind goes back to when
she thought she had met the man of her dreams. The man that every woman
dreams about sometime or other. It had been years since she had last
seen him, and yet she still thinks of him often. She remembers the day
that they first met ten years ago like it was only yesterday. Even down
to what they were both wearing.

She had on new a pale blue strapless sundress with white sandals and a
small white handbag, which she had just brought from Vine's the new
department store in Paris. She sat in a small out door coffee shop
waiting for her best friend Sarah to arrive.

While she was waiting a young waiter came by and accidentally tipped a
cup of hot coffee all over her knew out fit. As he bent down to pick up
the broken pieces of the coffee cup, their eyes met and they knew it was
love at first sight. He's name was Aaron.

A knock at the door brings her back to reality and she goes to answer
it. Just as she gets to the door she notices a piece of paper with her
name on it, which had been slipped under the door. She bends down to
pick it up and reads,

...Dear Sam,
Meet me in the foyer at eight tonight dressed formal.

Love your secret admirer...

@----/---
At the bottom of the letter there was a single red rose. That's strange
she thought who could it possibly be? As she looked the rose and smelt
it smiling.

At eight she was down in the foyer in a white satin dress with white
high heels. She looked at her watch and saw that she was ten minuets
early, so she sat down in one of the big armchairs in the Grand Hotel.
She was stunning.

As she was waiting she felt a tap on her right shoulder, she looked up
and got the surprise of her life. It was Aaron.

" What are you doing here? I thought you were still living in London."
He answered her by saying,

" Just hold all of your questions for the moment and follow me"

He was wearing a black suit.

He is still as young and gorgeous as ever she thought to her self, I
wonder what he is doing here in Paris. With her heart pounding at every
step she followed him to the door.

" You look great," he said as they sat side by side in the limousine
that he had hired for the occasion.

" Thanks" she said, "So do you" "Where are you taking me?"

"Just relax," he said, "You will find out soon enough". He poured her
out some champagne while they travelled to their destination.

When they pulled up they were at the airport; Sam had a very strange
feeling about all this. Why wouldn't Aaron answer any of her questions?
Why was he being so mysterious about every thing? As she said this she
knew she would find out soon enough.

Aaron led her to a small plane, just big enough for the two of them. Sam
was nervous and excited all at the same time with anticipation.

When the plane landed she saw where she was. Aaron had just taken her to
one of the most beautiful and romantic cities on this planet. He had
taken her to Rome. She was stunned she just didn't know what to say.
"I thought that's what you would do", Aaron said, "When you saw this
place. It's beautiful, just like you are".

"What are we doing here? This is just what you did on our first date".

"Do you remember back then?"

"Are you kidding? How could I forget? It was the most romantic night of
my life. I think about it quite often and you as well". She said in a
much smaller voice.
He led her away to a small restaurant.

When they got inside the restaurant she noticed that they were all alone
he had book the place out just for the two of them.

She remembered back to their first date that he took her out on. It was
in the same restaurant in the same romantic city. He had booked the
whole place for them selves then as well.

"How could you afford to have this place all to our selves twice in ten
years? It must of cost a fortune". Sam said.

"You are forgetting that I am now a Lawyer. I make quite a lot of money,
so there is no problem. Besides I like spoiling you. I missed you quite
a bit while I have been away. I thought of you often."

"I missed you a lot too. Why didn't ring or write to me?"

"I thought you might have found someone else in between. Then I came
over here for a holiday and I decided to see if you were still living
here. I saw you in a coffee shop so I followed to the Hotel. What are
you doing now? Are you still a Writer? You use to be good and I bet that
you still are a fantastic writer".

"Well to answer all of your questions no I haven't had anyone since we
had broken up ten years ago. I just missed you too much. So it was you
who put that letter under the door. You're my secret admirer?"

"That's right. But you still haven't answered my other question, which
was are you still a writer or what are you doing now?"

"Yes I am writer, but I am having trouble thinking of some ideas for
stories. May be you could help. Do you have any ideas?"

"Well actually I do you could write about us."

"Us?"

"Yes. Why not?"

"Well I will think about".

"Do you remember my best friend Sarah?" Sam said.

"Yes. What is she doing now?"

"Well that's just what I was going to tell you, you read my mind, any
way she had got her own business. She is a Fashion Designer. She has
done really well for her self. A lot better than what I have that's for
sure".

"Now come on don't put your self down all the time. You have nothing to
be ashamed about that you are a fantastic writer'. Don't think any other
way except to say to your self that you are the best writer in the whole
universe. I have something that might cheer you up".

"What is it".

"Well you will just have to wait and see. It's a surprise for later on
tonight".

They got back to the limousine and were on their way back to the
airport.

When they were both seated in the plane for ride home Aaron produced a
small box and gave it to Sam to open. While she opened it he said this
to her as he takes her by the hand.

"My dearest Sam, I have thought about you the whole time I was away.
Your memory never left my mind and my heart. I would like you to become
my wife will you say yes please?"

Sam was telling Sarah in her hotel room all that had happened the night
before. She didn't know what to do. She still loved him but it had been
ten years since she had last seen him. She thought that he was just
rushing in to things and that she wasn't ready.

"Do you think he will understand?" She said to Sarah. " I think he is
just rushing things. After all it has been ten years since we have last
seen each other."

"Sam just relax. I am sure if you explained things to him he will
understand and will want to take things a bit slowly. If he loves you as
much as he says he does, then there shouldn't be a problem now should
there?"

"No I suppose you are right. I just don't know how to tell him."

"Just be honest with him. It's the best way. Ring him up and tell him
now while I am still here."

Sam takes Sarah's advice and rings Aaron up.

"Hi how are you?" She says to him.

"I am fine thanks and you?"

"Oh I am fine to thanks. I just rang up to say thank you for last night
I had a terrific time. We will have to do it again some time. Don't you
agree?"

"Yes I do. Have you had any more thought on that question that I asked
you?"

"That's the other reason why I wanted to talk to you. Can you meet me in
the hotel foyer in about half an hour? We can go and get a coffee while
we talk about it."

"Sure half an hour sounds fine. I'll be there for sure".

Half an hour later Sam met Aaron in the hotel foyer and they went out
for a cup of coffee.

"Aaron, I need to tell you something. I don't want you to take it the
wrong way or anything. Before you speak just listen to what I have to
say.

I do love you and I would like to get married to you one day but I think
now is just to soon. I mean we have only just got back together again
after we have been a way from each other for ten years. I think we
should just slow down a bit. We are moving far to fast for each other".

Aaron sat drinking his coffee and listened to what Sam was saying. When
she had finished he said.

"I understand how you must feel. If you want to take things a bit more
slowly, then we will. As long as you promise me that one day we will get
married".

Sam was overjoyed at what he had just said. She thought that he might
say the complete opposite and she was ever so glad that it wasn't. She
replied.

"Absolutely, I will be more than happy to marry you later on. Now that
that's over, why don't we go and see a movie?"

"I have a better idea then that. I will meet you back up in your hotel
room in an hour's time. Wear something casual".

An hour later Sam was waiting in her hotel room when Aaron came up for
her.

"Are you ready?"

"As ready as I will ever be. Where are you taking me?"

"You will find out soon when we get there".

They were travelling along the highway in Aaron's new BMW sports car
with the top down. Sam could feel the cold Autumn wind blowing in her
face. She noticed that they were no longer in the city and guessed that
Aaron was taking her somewhere in the country.

Sam had guessed right. When they had stopped Aaron had pulled up to a
tiny shack built on the beach. Sam fell in love with it at first sight.

"Where are we?" she said.

"We are at my holiday shack. I haven't been here for years and I thought
you might like to see it. Do you like it?"

"Like it. Are you kidding? I love it. I haven't been to the beach in
years".

"Come in side and we can have some lunch".

"But I didn't bring anything".

"Don't worry I've got it all under control". He went to the boot of the
BMW and pulled out a picnic basket and a bottle of red wine.

"I hope you like red wine and cheese". He said.

"This is fantastic, where did you get all this on such short notice?"

"Oh I have my secrets".

"Well are you going to share them with me?"

"No you will just have to wait until we are married to find out. Come on
lets take a walk when now that you have finished. We can have desert
later".

They went for a walk on the beach the wind was now getting bitterly
cold. Sam pulled her jacket around her even more tightly.

"Would you like to go back to the hut and I will build you a nice log
fire?"

"Yes I would thanks. The wind is blowing just to coldly at the moment".

Once in side and Sam was warm again they began to talk about different
things. Like their careers and their families. It was night - time
before they even knew it.

"I am having just the best time here. I don't want to leave but I guess
we will have to start making a move soon".

"We can stay here tonight if you like and we can leave first thing in
the morning. Would you like to do that?"

"Yes I would is there any more of that wine?"

After they had finished the bottle of wine, he took her into his arms
and started kissing her. Slowly and softly at first. Then harder and
faster. They held each other in the firelight. After a few minutes of
kissing each other, he picked her up in his arms and carried her to the
bed - room, where they slowly peeled each other's clothes off and made
mad passionate love to each other all night long.

It was late morning when Sam woke up and she hadn't felt happier for
years than what she did at that very moment. She was finally with her
true love. She looked at him sound a sleep and she didn't want to wake
him. He looked so peaceful there, all most like an angel she thought to
her self. She decided to make him some breakfast.

As she was taking him in the fried eggs and toast he began to wake up.
"At last" she said to him, "I thought you would never wake up. I was
beginning to think that you were in a coma". Just he was about to answer
her, his mobile phone rang. When he had finished the conversation, he
put down the phone and looked at her with a sorry look on his face.
"Sam, I have some bad news to tell you."
"Aaron what is it. You can tell me anything you know that."
"I am afraid I have to go a way for a year or so to Tasmania, Australia,
that was just my partner on the phone. We have some big court cases
coming up and I don't know when I will be back."
"When do you go?"
"In a weeks time, but don't worry we will make the most of it while I am
still here and we will stay in contact. We will just have to have a long
distance relationship. It can work you know, only if we let it. I have
the perfect idea on how we can talk to each other all day and night just
like we are here. Remember this though, I LOVE you and always will.
Nothing could ever change that. Come here." Sam ran into his waiting
arms as they held each other in the silence not wanting it to end.

Sam was silent in the car all the way back from the beach house not
knowing what to say to him.
"Your' quite, what's wrong."
"I just don't want to lose you again, not when I have just found you
after ten years of not knowing where you are and what you are doing. I
just couldn't bear that again. Please don't go can't you send someone
else?"
"Honey, I have to go but that will never happen to us again I promise. I
have a surprise for you when we get back to the hotel.

When they arrived back at the hotel and up in her room. Aaron gave Sam a
Laptop computer.
"This is meant to serve two purposes not only to help you with your
writing but we can communicate on it when I am away via the Internet
that way we will never be lost too each other as long as we have each
other and our computers. What do you think?"

"Oh Aaron I love the idea thank you so much."

"Well this is it time to say our good byes I will be back soon ok and we
have our computers to communicate with each other. I love you I always
have and always will remember that and I will be back in no time at all
and no tears ok."
"I love you to and I will miss you heaps baby. They kiss and then Aaron
goes off to board the plane to Tasmania Australia.

Sam went back to her hotel room upset and miserable. She rang Sarah up
and told her to come over and bring a few bottles of wine with her.

Aaron sat on the plane feeling the same way that Sam was feeling. He got
his laptop computer and started to write her a letter all most straight
away.

Dear Sam,

How are you my darling? I am writing this on the plane, as I just
couldn't wait another second to tell that I miss you with all my heart
and that you were here with me. Please as soon as you get the message
could you answer me. I just can't wait to hear from you.
I love you heaps and I am missing you so much.

Love with all my heart.

Aaron.

p.s Sweet heart I hope you like the roses I sent to you.

Just as Sarah arrived at Sam's hotel room with the bottles of wine.
There was a beeping noise on Sam's new laptop Sarah said,
"Where on earth is that beeping noise coming from?"
"Oh I think it's coming from new laptop computer that Aaron had given to
me. I wonder who it is that is calling me?"
Sam turned on the computer and what she saw made her face light up with
happiness. As she and Sarah read:

Aaron.

@---/---- @---/---- @---/---- @---/---- @---/----
@---/---- @---/---- @---/---- @---/---- @---/----

Sam was over joyed and typed back immediately:

My Dearest Aaron,
I am so glad to hear from you I have been missing you so much all ready.
Are you in Tasmania, Australia yet or where are you?
Thankyou for the roses I love so much.

With all my love.

Sam

"That is so sweet I just wish I had a gorgeous guy that would do the
same thing for me. You are so lucky do you know that?" Sarah said to
Sam.
"I know." Sam answered. "I am so lucky. Aaron is the best thing that has
happened to me for so long."

It had been Six months since Aaron and Sam had seen each. But their
romance had grown on a much more deeper level then ever before, they
talked to each other every day and night on the inter net and they were
both very thankful for the chance to communicate with each other in that
way. It was so different then anything either of them had experienced
before. They never wanted it to end. But at the same time they needed to
see each other badly. It was midnight on a Sunday, in Sam's hotel room.
It was twelve noon, in Tasmania, Australia in Aaron's office.
"I've got a surprise for you. I hope you will like it my darling."
"You know I love anything you give me. What it is Hon?"
"I am coming home early tomorrow in fact and I can't wait to see you.
Will you pick me up at the airport?"
"You're coming home I don't believe it. Of course I will come and pick
you up. What time do you get in?"
"Two tomorrow afternoon"
"I love you; you know that don't you" Aaron asked her.
"I do and I hope you know that I love you twice as you do me and just
can't wait to see you again. I will be counting the hours, minutes and
seconds until I have you back in my arms again."

At two PM the next day, Aaron stepped off the plane and on the tarmac,
he started to run to the airport to look for Sam. They saw each at the
same time and ran to each other with open arms. They held each other for
a long time neither of them wanted to let go, but when they did they
were pleased with what they saw. They both realised at the moment that
they destined for each other until they die.

Back at Sam's hotel room, after Aaron got back they just sat and talked
and Aaron asked Sam a very important question.
"Sam, I feel that over the last few months we have gotten to know each
other on a much deeper level and that we were destined to be together
for the rest of our lives. Not just as friends, which will always be,
but as husband and wife as well. Will you marry me?"
"My dearest Aaron I would love nothing better then to become your wife.
Yes, yes I will marry you".
That was the response that Aaron was hoping for. With that he pulled out
a box and slipped a diamond ring on Sam's finger.

"I can't believe it, you're really getting married? Are you sure that
it's what really want?"
"Yes I am sure it's what I really want. I would love it if you were my
brides maid. Would you please be my brides maid Sarah?"
"Yes Sam I would be honoured to be your brides maid. Thankyou for asking
me."
"Hey you're my best friend as if I am going to leave you out and not ask
you."

Sam and Aaron plan the wedding day for the first day in summer.
Everything is ready for the big day, the dress, the cake, flowers, and
the reception. The wedding is now two days away.

Sam and Sarah are talking about the wedding.
"I am so nervous. I wonder if Aaron feels the same way. Are you sure
that everything is ready?"
"Yes everything is ready. All you have to do is relax and enjoy it.
Things will run smoothly. But most importantly is don't worry about a
thing."

"Are you ready? It's show time."
Sam looked stunning. She had an off the shoulder long sleave lace dress.
Which was of course was white. She was beautiful.
Aaron was in a black suit and white shirt.
Sarah was in a pale peach straight dress.
But the bride stole the show.
The wedding and reception was a very simple one. The happy couple then
went off for their honeymoon to Hawaii.

"This has been the best most romantic two weeks of my life and I am so
happy that we are married. You are the husband ever."
"I feel the same way about you. Over the past the few months, we have
gotten to be husband and wife but as best friends as well. I will all
ways treasure you and our marriage as well. I love you with all my
heart."
"I feel the same way about you. That's why I hope you will be as happy
with what I have got to tell you as I am. We are going to have a baby."
"What really? You are joking aren't you? Are you serious?"
"Yes I am very serious and I glad that you feel the same way as me?"

"Well congratulations. But does Aaron know that you are about to have
quads?"
"No I am going to tell him tonight. I hope he will be happy?"
"I am sure he will be, happy and proud."

"Aaron, I went to the doctor today."
"Is everything okay with the baby?"
"Everything is fine with our babies."
"Babies, how many are we having?"
"Four?"
"Four! Are you okay? Do you know what sex they are?"
"Yes, two boys and two girls. I hope you don't mind but I know what
names I want to call them."
"I don't mind at all. What do you want to call them?"
"For the boys: Matthew and Benjamin and for the girls: Jane and
Michelle. What do you think? Do you like the names?"
"I love the names, and they will be as beautiful as what their mother
is."

On the last day of October, Sam gave birth to Matthew, Benjamin, Jane
and Michelle.
"This is the happiest moment of my life. Thank you for making all of my
dreams come true."
"This is a dream come true for me and I am the one who should be
thanking you. You are the one that has made my dreams possible."

Just as the quads had their tenth birthday, Aaron got a call to say that
he had to go back to Tasmania/Australia and work on another case.
But something happened to the plane and it went down and crashed. There
were no survivers. When Sam heard the news she went into a state of
shock. Her whole life had been turned up side down and there wasn't a
thing that she could do about it. But the hardest thing of all was
telling her four children that their father had died and would never be
coming back.
After she had told them she rang Sarah up to talk.
"Sarah I just don't know how I am going to cope. The love of my life has
been taken from me, I just don't want to go on any more."
"Sam, listen you have to be strong if not for your self but for your
children's sake. They need you to be strong and you have to be for
them."
"Your right, but I will never for as long as I live never love anyone as
much as I loved and still love Aaron."

Two years after Aaron's death Sarah finally persuaded Sam to go a party
with her. She started to talk to a man called Alex, who was writer like
her-self. He asked her out. After thinking about it for a while she
decided that she did need to get out and meet people again. So she took
him up on his offer.
He took her to see a movie, and after they went for a walk on the beach.
Where she told him that she couldn't be any more then friends, not yet
anyway.
"Alex, I like you but we can't be any more then good friends. I still
love Aaron so deeply and no other man can take the place of him in my
heart. Our love will go on forever. Nothing can ever change. I am
sorry."
"Don't be, you loved him so much and still do I can tell. But when you
are ready to move on I will be here for you to lean on when ever you
want to and to be more then friends if that is what you want later on."
With that they hugged each other and he drove her home.

As the years progressed Sam and Alex become very close friends. They did
everything together and got to know each other very well.
The quads had grown up and had come to think of Alex as their father, as
the father they had never got the chance to know.

One day Alex went to Sam and said,
"Sam, you know that you have come to mean a great deal to me. The past
few years have been some of the happiest ones that I have known. I love
you so much and I would be so happy if you would say yes and become my
wife." Then he got out a small box, opened it and put a gold ring on
her finger.

"I don't know what to say. You mean a lot to me Alex and I love you
very much. Yes, Yes I will marry you."

That night Sam invited Alex over for tea.

"Everyone I have an announcement to make. Alex and I are going to be
married next Summer."

"All her children were happy and said that they were glad about the up
and coming wedding. Now all Sam had left to tell was Sarah and she did
so the next day.

"Sarah I have something to tell you. Sam said as they were in a coffee
house together.

"Yes what is it. You know you can tell me anything."

"Yes I know that and I want you to know that you have been a big help to
me. I don't know what I would do with out you."

"What is it Sam?"

"Well Alex and I are getting married next Summer and I would love it if
you were my brides maid."

"What are you serious I would love to be your brides maid
congratulations
I know that the two of you will be perfect for each other." And with
that Sarah went around and gave Sam a huge hug.

"Thanks"

"So have you told the kids yet"

"Yes I have and they were so happy for the both of us, they are great
kids."

"Yes they are."

"I still miss him you know."

"Who Aaron?"

"Yes. I think of him so often I miss him so much after all these years,
but I do love Alex as well. Do you think I'm doing the right thing
marrying him?"

"Yes I do. You can't stay alone for the rest of your life Sam, you
have to find happiness. The question is now are you sure that Alex is
the one that you will be happy with? If in your heart he is then go for
it. You have nothing to lose by it. But what ever you do decide I will
be right here for you no matter what happens, you can count on me."

"Thank you Sarah. Your right I can't spend the rest of my life alone,
and I don't want too. I love Alex, hes been so good to me over the last
few years. He's the one that I want to marry. It's just that I can't
stop shaking this feeling off about Aarron. I was so sure that he was
the man of my dreams, I was so sure that I had found him at last. Then
when he died my whole world just fell apart. I know that no matter what
happens I will all ways miss him and I would all ways love him. Hes the
father of my children and that bond will last forever.

I still see him in their faces everyday, especially the boys they are
much like him. He will all ways have a place in my heart no matter what
happens in the future. I will never be able to forget the love that we
had, it will live on forever."

At last it was the big day. It was Sam's wedding day. As she got ready
all she could think of was her wedding day to Aarron and how much it
meant to the both of them, but she knew in her heart that she had to
move on with her life and Alex is the perfect man to do that with.

When Sarah came in to help her get ready she knew what she was thinking
and went straight over and hugged her.

"Are you ok?" She asked.

"Yes I'm fine thank you. Thank you for being there when I need you.
You have all ways been there for me what would I ever do with out you?"

"Thank you for being there for me too, and I will all ways be there for
you no matter what honey."

With that they both cried and gave each other a long hug. It was going
to be a very long and emotional day for the two of them.

A few minutes later they both started to get ready and they looked
breath taking as they looked in the mirrors waiting for the ceremony to
begin.

Sarah was wearing a long pale blue dress, with sleaves that went just
around the shoulders. With her long hair piled high on her head.

Sam was wearing a white dress that was exquisite. It had long lace
sleaves that started from the shoulders, and the front was made in to a
satin heart shape. It then had a small train at the back she looked
beautiful.

Like Sarah, she all so had her hair piled high on her head.
With a short veil that went with it.

She was so happy and anyone could see it in her face when they saw her.

The two women hugged once more before they started off down the isle.

The wedding was beautiful. Just like something you only read about in
fairy tale books. The bride was gorgeous and everyone fell in love with
her as soon as they saw her walking down the isle.

The ceremony was short but as they promised to love and cherish each
other, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, for rich or
poorer. You could see it in their eyes how much they loved each other
and how much they meant to each other.

After the wedding was over everyone went to the reception. The
reception was in a big beautiful old home which was a friend of Alex's.
He said it was his wedding give to them. It was just perfect, everyone
loved it.
As the night drew to a close and the happy couple had danced the night
away. It came time for them to say their good byes and for Sam to throw
the bouquet

When Sam threw they bouquet and looked around to see who had got it, she
saw that it was Sarah and she was so happy for her.

She then went off to get changed and she came back wearing a long white
satin dress with tiny straps she looked stunning.

She gave everyone one last hug and thanked them all then Alex and Sam
went off in the limo to the airport as husband and wife.
