Longer Summary (NOTE: POSSIBLE SPOILERS!)

I have to admit that the characters in the Lucky Tickets series are near and dear to my heart. I am not like any of the major characters myself, but I have created them using composites drawn from people I know and some famous people as well.

The story of Lucky Stiff is basically a continuation of the tale that started with Lucky Tickets. The relationship between Jim and Kristen blossoms, and both characters are seen to mature during the story.

There's a common fantasy people that people have about what they would do if they had ultimate power. What would happen if you could have made that cheerleader in school take notice of you and service you sexually? It's the classic stuff of fantasy, and I think that this is why the "mind control" (MC) genre is sort of popular.

At the same time, I don't see many stories where the person with the power actually dwells on the ethics of having such power. Just because you can get little Buffy to orally please you on stage during graduation ceremonies, does that mean that you should? After all, what would prevent you from doing so? If nobody can stop you, it doesn't mean that it's right...

For this series, I took a basic gimmick (the tickets) and formed a story around it. I knew when I started the sequel that I had a long story to tell, since the basic story around the gimmick is a about a boy coming of age. He starts out naive, and tries to learn from his mistakes. Of course, having the tickets means that the repercussions of his mistakes have the potential of being a bit more than most people would encounter. But this is a story, right?

I wrote this sequel over a period of a year (on and off), and most of the first five chapters were originally written for the original story (Lucky Tickets). This provided some continuity, but I also had to modify the pacing from the original, which was written on a "one day equals one chapter" pace—this would be very problematical with a story that takes place over a year's time!

As usual, I posted this story about a chapter every week on StoriesOnline, starting in August, 2004 and finally ending in July, 2005. I had two very helpful editors (Terry and Mike) to help me proofread the story as I posted it, and I think their influence can be seen by the fact that the story looks more polished to my own eyes.

The original story was pretty well received, and I hope the same applies to the sequel.

I have at least one other story in the works in this series, which I will start writing next year, and should be able to post to USENET sometime in 2007.
